Judas Priest is retiring in 2011

Judas Priest are retiring after one final tour in 2011. The Epitaph Tour will start in Europe in the Summer.
Press release: "After storming the world for nearly 40 years and taking their very special brand of heavy metal to all four corners of the planet, JUDAS PRIEST - one of the most influential heavy metal bands of all time, have announced this will be their final world tour!!
However, the mighty PRIEST will certainly be going out strong as they rock the planet starting in 2011 on the massive EPITAPH tour - hitting all the major cities throughout the world they will be playing the songs that helped make the name JUDAS PRIEST synonymous with heavy metal!
With all guns blazing and amps cranked to eleven, the band will be giving all their fans one last chance to witness the ultimate metal experience that is JUDAS PRIEST!
JUDAS PRIEST will be starting their world tour in Europe.
Stay tuned as we announce more dates - information will be forthcoming soon - so start getting prepared to rock one final time with the incomparable JUDAS PRIEST!!"

June 9 - Sweden Rock Festival, Solvesborg, Sweden
June 11 - Sauna Open-Air, Finland
June 17 - Copenhell Festival, Copenhagen, Denmark
June 19 - Hellfest, Clisson, France
June 22 - Gods of Metal, Milan, Italy
June 25 - Graspop Metal Meeting, Dessel, Belgium
July 23 - High Voltage Festival, London, England
August 5 - Wacken Open-Air, Wacken, Germany

No regreting that, but Judas Priest was THE band back in their best days. Without them, we wouldn't have had nothing!

Well, they were really hot at one time. Nothing lasts forever. But, JP did very well!

Admit it, without Judas Priest or Iron Maiden (the 2 most referent bands of the west and east world) music wouldn't be the way it is now. Or are you gonna tell me that Iron Maiden wasn't infuential at all the same way Judas Priest was?

Instead of them, I'd say Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. A LOT more influental.

Of course, those are the roots of rock and metal. But my point was that they set a route of the forthcoming bands: You can mostly listen to their sounds in modern bands, as well as some tips from Purple, Sabbath and Zeppelin
Anyway, the only thing that matters now is that it's just sad to see a band quitting after all the years they were active

I'm a massive Priest fan, but, I hate to say this, based on the last album Nostradamus and Halford's latest live performances this isn't neccessarily a bad decision.
They are no doubt among the most influential metal bands ever and much of what metal is about today can be traced back to them. RIP Metal Gods, maybe I'll be there to bid you farewell at Sauna Open Air next year.

I think this is the best thing. Bow out gracefully, instead of becoming dinosaurs. Each of them will continue with other projects, become involved in producing, or just take a well earned rest from all the rocking!

agree! because age is really taking his toll on robs singing. not to mention the other members, I dont want to remember them like this. they didnt age well like say.......the rolling stones. charlie watts is still drummin; how in the earth is that possible?ยก.

They're not splitting up, they're just not going to tour after 2011. Plenty of future music to come from JP I think.
I saw them in early 2009 alongside Megadeth and there wasn't a single thing wrong with Rob's voice (or Megadeth for that matter). He even managed Angel perfectly.

Two bands retiring are headlining the festival:
JP and Scorpions.
The other headliners are Ozzy and Trust.

Im with my boy gonza here, of course balu had a gigantic point ;Led zep is way more influential than priest or maiden. BUT, led zep passed the torch to many bands to carry the legacy and among those bands Priest and Maiden (I could name Purple,Saxon, Angel Witch and so on) were fundamental for the heavy metal we got today.
in other words, Led zep were the architects and Priest and Maiden were the builders

This is sad news for me as I am a huge priest fan, however I wonder if they'll at least continue making albums even if they don't tour.
