RIP Daddy

My Father had a massive heart attack early Saturday morning. Doctors put in a pacemaker but it it failed. On Sunday at 12:30 pm Daddy went unconscious and died a very peaceful death. I'll never forget watching the green line on the machine as it slowed, and then flatlined. At that point was when my knees almost buckled under me.

But Daddy lived a long happy life. He had his bad times but especially the last years of his life was fulfilling. He loved to fish, and garden(he grew some of the prettiest tomatoes you'd ever see, and his Angel Trumpets were the talk of the neighborhood), and he loved his 4 pet goats.

Daddy would have been 80 in August, and although I argued with his Archie Bunker attitude he had a wonderful sense of humor and at his age he still liked to watch Beavis and Butthead, The Three Stooges, and Benny Hill.

Daddy was a member of the American Legion since he served the Korean War, and was given a military funeral service with a gun salute, and taps. The flag draped across his coffin was buried with him.
He and my Mom were married almost 56 years.

The past few days have been a shock, and I'm still numb. I will be taking care of my Mom alot so she won't be alone. That big white house is going to be a much quieter place now that Daddy is gone. But The Circle will be unbroken someday, and we will be together again around the throne of God, and with His Angels---where the roses never fade.

Daddy, I miss you.♥♥♥♥

WHERE THE ROSES NEVER FADE Image

I am going to a city,
Where the streets with gold are laid;
Where the tree of life is blooming,
And the roses never fade.

Here they bloom but for a season,
Soon their beauty is decayed;
I am going to a city,
Where the roses never fade.

Loved ones gone to be with Jesus,
In their robes of white arrayed;
Now are waiting for my coming,
Where the roses never fade.

Soon their beauty is decayed;
I am going to a city,
Where the roses never fade.

Here they bloom but for a season,
Soon their beauty is decayed;
I am going to a city,
Where the roses never fade.

My deepest condolences to you and the family, dear BEG.

It's good to know that he got to live long enough to see his grandson's wonderful kid. :)

I'm very sorry to hear that, BEG. I guess all one can do is be glad he didn't suffer a long illness, and be thankful he had a long life and a happy marriage and got to see his great-grandchild... not everyone is that lucky. Be strong for your mum.

Thank all of you for your kind words, they mean alot to me.

Actually, I guess some lessons are to be learned from Daddy's death. Two months ago he had a complete check-up at the doc. His suagar level was perfect, his triglyceride and chloresterol levels were perfect. His weight was perfect. Daddy had been walking 2 miles a day for years, so he was given a clean bill of health. However, he never received a cardiac ultrasound which is often given upon request at a check-up, and if he had been given one the 3 blockages would have been spotted in time, maybe. The heart specialist said these blockages probably had been present for years, then a sizable clot manifested itself, and he had a massive coronary.
I guess the lesson is when it comes to health never overlook anything. I know I am going to change my diet and try to exercise more.
However, when its a person's time to go that's it. Daddy's death was a total shock to everyone, not just the sudden finality of it, but he was so vital and healthy, and active.

I found an old picture of my Dad and I. I was about a year old. We were sitting in the grass, I was in his lap wearing a lacey white dress, and a big white ribbon in my hair. I think it was Easter. He was looking down at me with so much love in his eyes that I almost cried as I looked at it. I'll always treasure that pic for the rest of my life.

I guess it's a little unorthodox to say this, but you can always count on us! :)

Afar from the spammery and faggotry we see here, we're all pretty much a family.*

*Not THAT family!

Be strong and keep your memories. :)

BEG, I'm so sorry for you :( , and I can truely feel with you. It was the same kind of shock for me when my grandfather died a completely unexpected death back in 2006. He was the familiy member I had always been closest to, he was always there for me and I loved him a lot....
However, time will make it all right, even if it's hard to believe.

Oh Come, Angel Band

My latest sun is sinking fast,
My race is nearly run;
My strongest trials now are past,
My triumph is begun.

Chorus:
Oh, come, angel band,
Come and around me stand;
Oh, bear me away on your snow white wings
To my eternal home;
Oh, bear me away on your snow white wings
To my eternal home.

I know I’m near the holy ranks
Of friends and kindred dear—
I hear the waves on Jordan’s banks,
The crossing must be near.

Chorus

I’ve almost reached my heav’nly home,
My spirit loudly sings;
Thy holy ones, behold, they come!
I hear the noise of wings.

Chorus

Oh, bear my longing heart to Him,
Who bled and died for me;
Whose blood now cleanses from all sin,
And gives me victory.

I'm so sorry :cry: A big hug for you and your family, time will give you relief, he had a good life and a loving family, so he left in peace, and so you should be in peace too.

My prayers and thoughts are with you now.

(Geez, I never liked to say anything in this kind of situation, it seems anything I could say will be meaningless :? I'm sorry :cry: )

Once again, thank you for your kind words. Nothing fancy needs to be said in times of bereavement--condolences, and a respect for the departed is all that's really needed.
What matters now are the survivors because the deceased has already gone to his reward. I'm going to go stay with my Mother for a few days next week and help her clean out Daddy's stuff, decide what she wants to keep, give away, etc. I know it's going to be a long, emotionally draining job.
But, time goes on and Spring will arrive as usual to warm the now existing coldness, and revive not only nature but the numbness that our family feels right now.

"Weeping endureth for a night, but joy cometh in the morning."

@Kosmo, you'd be alot stronger than you think. This type of circumstance gives you more insight than you think you'd ever believe about yourself. :)Image
