Kamelot - Silverthorn
I just heard their new album, and while I really need some more listens to get within it, I already know it's really good. I feared Kareviks' voice to be the weak part but I actually love his voice in all the songs.
Musicwise it's heavy, proggy and symphonic, maybe a bit more modern-sounding than any of their previous releases. But I do like it, it sounds like a fresh, renewed version of Kamelot.
Anyone else has an opinion on it?

I preordered it some time ago and I'll get it on Friday. My expectations are pretty neutral after the last two. It also seems strange to me to pick a singer who sounds exactly like Khan. This song is great though.

The fact that he sounded like Khan bothered me too. I feared they would become a second rate copy of themselves. But luckily in the rest of the album he really has his own unique sound.

During Alissa White-Gluz's part on that video? Yay, I don't feel so creepy about it now that I'm not alone!
Shit, did I say that out loud?

Haha! Indeed! <3
The song Solitaire on the new album is my favorite track by them. That chorus. :luv1: :luv1: :luv1: Especially the last two chorusses. When Tommy repeats the chorus and changes the melodies a bit. LOVE.

Kiss my ass Recordshop X! You were supposed to mail it on time so that I'd get it on the release day.

Does it have anything to do with the Riftwar saga?

Nope. Same title, but it's a new and original story.NeonVomit wrote:Does it have anything to do with the Riftwar saga?

Re: Kamelot - Silverthorn
I'm glad they took a step back to more power metal direction with this one, it reminds me mostly of the album Epica. Sacrimony, Solitaire and Prodigal Son are really great ones and while listening I barely acknowledge that Khan isn't there.
Re: Kamelot - Silverthorn
I love it too. The songs you mentioned are my favorites too. But I love them all. My Confession is also one which is becoming more great every listen. And told you about Khan.
Re: Kamelot - Silverthorn
Listened to the single and while I do appreciate the effort that has gone into this release, I'm still disappointed about the lack of Roy and that it's a concept album. I absolutely adored Ghost Opera and would have loved them return to that style regardless of Roy.
I'm not hating on what I've heard from the album at all, I just don't really think that it's for me.

Re: Kamelot - Silverthorn
I saw Kamelot twice when opening for Nightwish earlier this month, and I have become a believer!
I have liked Kamelot since Ghost Opera, but I have not really delved into their music too much until now. I have pretty much been listening to them nonstop since I got back from the concerts. The new album is awesome.
Nice guys too; we met 3 of them (including Tommy) after the show in San Diego and they all signed my birthday card!

I miss Roy Khan, but I think the new guy is great. I really liked this album.
Re: Kamelot - Silverthorn
I really enjoyed the album! I think that there are several good tracks and Karevik fits perfectly the place of Roy Khan ( I will miss him, but Kamelot is bigger than a frontman).
Sacrimony (Angel of Afterlife), Veritas, Solitaire are great tracks and I really enjoyed Falling Like a Farenheit! Prodigal Son is a great track too, and the intro (Manus Dei) is a good composition to introduce an album.
Youngblood has done things properly during those years, first filling with Lione the vocals and then chosing Karevik, the last one really rocks on stage!
Still I think that the previous album "Poetry for The Poisoned" (The Great Pandemonium, Hunter's Season, Necropolis, Pt.II So Long,...) was a good album too and this seems to be a step further in the progression of the band.

Not bad, but Tommy's better.
