What Makes Dragon Ball Z Good?

So, I've been wondering for a while...
I used to watch it with my bro when I was a kid, and did enjoy it. After a while, I had a bit of a anti-Dragon Ball phase, loosely based on the fact that the plot is always simmilar, very straight forward and simple.
There's always a reveal to the new villian's insane strength, usually exposing how weak the previous main evil guy is now in comparison. Then there's a stage where this main villian is more powerful than all the good guys. A couple transformations, and we end at the state where with a super strong attack/power up, the good guys win.
Soo... yeah, plot wise it isn't the most creative thing, and the characters aren't that deep either
Yet, the series is just so enjoyable, so well exectued... that it's just entretaining and exiting to watch.
So... what is it really? What makes DB Z a good series?
Just wanted to throw that out there, in case there's any DB fan here.[/i]
