4000 Rainy Mights...No, no...
It was Forever! A live recording of them doing it in concert. The crowd was singing along.
For me, it was one of those WOW! moments. I don't know what it was about them but I
instantly fell in love with the band and HAD to hear MORE!
Hahaha! It was around August 2000 for me too! I remember 'cause I was looking for music for my wedding.

I bought Destiny-album for a friend of mine, for his birthday, januari 1999. I was wondering what kind of music he asked for, so I placed it in my cd-player, and first song was Destiny. So, Destiny was my first Strato song.

Saw the video for Hunting high And Low somewhere in 2001, that was all I need to know about the band's existence, coz I got hooked to them soon after.

My brother had a thing for finding mp3s and he found a song called Black diamond, I listened to it and I was hooked. This happened in 1998.

Eagleheart.
My brother bought Elements part 1 (I'd not heard them before then) and what would you know, it's the first song on the album. Therefore it was the first song I heard.

This is a good topic---I'm gonna bump it up!

I think most people who hear Strato&give them a chance become somewhat addicted/hooked to their music.
I did not stop buying their CDs until I had gotten them all! The only major CD I have not gotten has been The Past&Now, and I think its quit being made.

For me it was Eternity. A was a lot into Nightwish in those days and a friend of mine told me aabout this Stratovarius band that sounded a bit the same. So I downloaded some stuff from them. I got Eternity, then Tears of Ice, then Black Diamond and then I went crazy about this band and bought Visions and Episode.

Indeed, but it's not just the music that gets me to listen to them time after time. The lyrics themselves are pure genius as well, especially the ones that give a special meaning to certain aspects of your life.
For instance, they helped me through a deep depression I had in June/July of 2004 with
Dreamweaver, that song just felt like it was written for me personally!
I could give more examples, but I can't think of them right now, so I'll probably get back on that later.

Well, when I say music, I mean lyrics, too. And most of the songs do mean something. They are not simply bump&grind songs you dance to, but songs that talk about life, love,happiness&self-reflection/acceptance. They have feeling. They come from the writer's heart(TT&TK) as if they understand. There are also songs about historical&worldly things such as We are the Future&4th Reich. The Love songs are beautiful&touching. They are real tearjerkers&do not express the sexual/sensual side of love, but the deep feelings that come from the heart&soul, where lasting love springs forth.
Yes, the writers(TT&TK&JJ)of StratoSongs have been underrated far too long in the Music World at large---I think the visit to the States will correct that!

Ummm underrated in USA?? well, talking about european heavy metal in USA, who´s not underrated?
Something I like a lot in certain lyrics of Strato, ( and sometimes also in Helloween) is that they try to give a personal point of view, sometimes positive, sometimes introspective, but quite deep.

Late 1998-early 1999, don't remeber exactly. VH-1 used to have "Friday Rock Show" where I saw SOS, Kiss Of Judas and some other Strato video few times ...

I must have been asleep at the switch, or missed that particular show for some reason

because my son&I used to watch that show on Friday nights. It came on at 10pmCST. I wonder why Strato did not catch on full-blown in USA then? So, I guess they have had a bit of media coverage in USA, then.

Here's my story.
Back in the late 90s, the only metal band I liked was Iron Maiden. I was listening to the metal channel on MusicChoice, a set of music stations programmed into Time Warner Cable TV back then. And unlike most normal TV stations, MusicChoice actually played good metal. I heard some cool stuff, like "The Candle" by King Diamond and "The Sinner's Cross" by Nocturnal Rites. I'm writing down the songs I like as they come on, and just as "The Sinner's Cross" is ending. I hear some quick drum hits followed by a badass guitar riff, and look up. When the data finally loaded, it was "Phoenix" by Stratovarius. The song blew me away, particularly the chorus. Then I read the lyrics online and was even more impressed. I downloaded the Phoenix mp3 from Kazaa or something and listened to it constantly.
Stratovarius was the first time I was exposed to Finnish music. I read up on Stratovarius online, and took note that "Phoenix" was on the album, "Infinite."
A few days later, I was listening to MusicChoice again. After a streak of music I didn't like, a song started, and I heard this catchy theme played by a guitar and keyboard. Before the data even loaded, I said, "That's probably Hunting High And Low." I was right. I actually predicted it was Stratovarius and which song it was. Of course, the HHAL mp3 was downloaded shortly afterwards. Then I bought the Infinite and Dreamspace albums online. Yeah, I downloaded mp3s, but I also bought the albums, so I say I'm justified.
Fast forward to today, and I have all but one album of Strato's: Twilight Time. I also have the special editions of both Elements albums. You all need to hear the Stratofortress demo. It's amazing.
"Phoenix" is still my favorite song.

The first Stratovarius release I bought was in 1997, I bought Twilight Time, as I was really curious. I admit that I purchsed it because I read a metal magazine and there was a interview with Kotipelto, but on the pic I saw Jens and Jörg, and said: "wow"! Jens and Jörg playing with these guys?? who are these finnish??!!!!" You have to understand that in that time, Jörg had played with Rage, Running Wild, Grave Digger, etc and was a famous drummer; and no necessary to talk about Jens, the magician of the keyboards! but not the rest of the band....So to check them playing in a new band was the reason to start to get the Strato releases. After Twilight Time, I got Visions, then back to Dreamspace... and so on.
