Ok, even though HvyMtlClickWitch is VERY metal, she does not live in Valhalla, she lives in Florida!... and in case any of the people here knew that and were concerned about her being in the path of hurricane Wilma (which was a level 3 hurricane) I got a letter from her today, even though her mailbox got blown away

...Things are messy and blown around, and the power is out etc, but they're all fine.
Just wanted to let ya'll know!

I was concerned.
But she said something about protection in one of her post before Wilma, so that was good.
Great that she's fine.

Holy Diver! There's a topic about me!!!
Wilma hit pretty damn hard, but we're all alive. The biggest problem right now is that everything is in disarray; there is no gasoline and very few commercial entities have power, so everyone is acting stupid.
Personally, my family and I made out okay. I have a putt-putt four cylinder, so the gasoline issue isn't affecting me, and mom & dad aren't working yet, so they're not having trouble either. We had a little structural damage, but nothing important.

Here's our house. Okay, just kidding. This is actually across the street from us.

Hey, where the fuck is my mailbox??

So much for a bountiful mango season this year. I like the creative decor, though.
Anyhow, life goes on. I mean hell, the fucking mall that I work at opened the very next day. And I have the internet. WTF? I should be dead with a piece of my roof impaled through my skull or something. I mean, really.

What part of Florida do you live in? Ft.Myers, Naples, Ft.Lauderdale? I'm glad you and your family made it through OK. My dad lost half of his roof.

In spite of the damage&all, you do live in a beautiful area, HMCW! And you had a mango tree? I hope you consider replacing it.
Anyway, I thought about you&wondered if you were OK and if Wilma did alot of damage there, so you answered my questions!

Thanks Sherry, you really are sweet! The mango tree is still there, but it's only half the height it was before. That thing is a mutant, it will never die!!
Jesse: I live in Palm Beach. It's suburban and trite where I live, and I hate it, but Ft. Myers scares me.

Where is your dad? I hope he was insured...how fast will they get around to repairing that?

He's insured. He was on the phone with the insurance company when I called him directly after the storm. If they drag their feet too long he will get up on the roof and do it himself, then send them the bill. My Dad is not a patient man.
Ft.Myers scares you?! LOL. It had it's pros and cons. I lived there for 13 years of my life. Did all four years of High School there. With the exception of Sanibel, Captiva, and Ft.Myers Beach, I really don't miss that area at all. Redneck Heaven. I moved up to Orlando in 2003 and I like it here. Orlando is a cool place. The suburb I live in is nice with very little crime.
Palm Beach is nice, I lived in Wellington for a couple of years when I was like 7 and 8 years old.
Do you guys have your power back on yet, or are you using a generator? I have heard that in some areas electricity may not be restored until near Thanksgiving time, YIKES!!

Oh hell. And you're not permanently scarred??

Our area was deemed one of the ones that wouldn't have power until the 15th, but luckily we got it restored a couple days ago. It was a big issue for me because my brother is coming from Seattle to visit on the 9th; so the 15th would have been rather awful timing. A lot of people around here had generators, so one of the best things about having electricity back is that we don't have to hear that awful chrous of generator sounds 24/7 anymore.
Did it hit you, neonlightchild? Tell us what's going on down there!

I have more scars than I care to count,

, however I have fond memories of Wellington, my friends and I were always getting into mischief. Hiding in the woods and egging cars as they drove by. Stuff like that. Geez, that was around 1983 and 1984. Long time ago.
Generators suck, and they are loud, but a necessary evil in Florida. My Dad had his first one stolen right after Hurricane Charley. He bought another and they are like $600 bucks a pop. He has this one bolted down to a slab of concrete on the side of the house.
Being without power sucks. We lost ours for a bit right after Hurricane Frances last year. I had a bunch of friends over for a hurricane party. We couldnt plug our guitars in, so we had our version of "Unplugged" to pass the time. We played a lot of Monopoly too. Ugghh.
Hurricane season officially ends November 30th, but I think we should be about done with them now for this year. This cold front has probably cooled off the waters in the Gulf and Atlantic.
Hopefully
Jesse

Glad to hear you're okay!
Dang, is it just me or is the hurricane season worse than usual this year...or is the media just covering every wind breeze due to Katrina?

From what I heard, this year and last year's hurricane convergences upon the southeast U.S. are part of some kind of sudden weather pattern change. Apparently we've not had too many for the past 15 years, but now we can expect 15 years of this trend, or something.. Sounds sketchy to me, but there's definitely more activity than usual.
Regarding Katrina. She already has a book out, apparently. Probably more than one. I was in a bookstore and saw it, something about the 'struggle of the survivors of Katrina' or whatever. Which on one hand is nice and sweet in that barfy apple pie kind of way. But it didn't really sit right with me.
