Pet-Peeves...What gets under your skin?

Post by Jester » Sun Oct 30, 2005 7:27 am

I had a couple of my pet-peeves violated today. I figured it might make a good topic. We all have them. I read here recently that one of Jens' is being bothered while he eats.

I'll go first.

I know this is terrible but this is my biggest one. Listening to someone who stutters.

The second would be small children who scream at the top of their lungs and parents who do nothing about it but give all the annoyed people around them a silent look of "I'm sorry".

The third would be people who have a poor conception of time and are habitually late, or don't do things when they say they are going to do them, and keep putting it off.

What are yours?

one organization...P.E.T.A. (in other words, the animal rights group). They have strayed SO FAR off of their message, that all they care about is media attention. I mean, my God, how the hell can you prove that Jesus was a vegitarian?

I dislike it, when somebody thinks, that he/she is the only one, who can tell/make good jokes. These people are the lowest ranked on my list.

Do you have an hour? :D

Shallow people who aren't perfect themseves.

People who say "I understand", and you know they don't.

Self-righteous hypocrites.

People who believe in sexual double-standards.

Dishonest preachers begging for money.

When a person says they will call or show up&don't.

When you go to a show, concert etc&its delayed hours, or cancelled!

People who lie about marital status to either impress a person, or discourage.

Restuarants/cafes that make rotten coffee.

People who eat treats around you when you are on a diet!

People who owe you money and never pay it back.

Hows that for starters? =P

The most of all: If something's wrong with my coffee. If the day starts with bad / no coffee I'm in the worst mood for the rest of the day.

Oh yes, and all this neoliberal blahblah you can hear in the media every day: We have to tighten our belts (People who say this usually don't even WEAR belts), we have to become more competitive and for that reason cut welfare, people have to become more self-responsible and care for themselves (hard to get an insurance for your retirement pay if you don't have the money to pay it now)... :x I'm getting angry when I just think about it...

And all these media babblers just copy themselves and talk the same shit since years. I guess you have to prove your complete incabability of independent thinking if you want to get a job at a TV station...

hypocrites, while i know that society is based on lies and appearances (guilty as charged *ahem) but there are just some things where i draw the line

for example, half friends and such, outright lies, and doing stuff for the wrong reasons (*coughbush&cheneycoughcough*)
Close your eyes and try to remember, destroyed lullabies of days gone by
Close your eyes on the edge of forever, a chance to dream fast asleep your nightmare ends

My T-Mobile bill is quite steep, I have all the things you could want on a phone, and signed a contract. I will downgrade my service though after the contract is up. T-Mobile is awesome compared to Nextel, who I used to have. My cell bill is usually $72 dollars a month.

Speaking of Nextel. Constantly getting that "beep-beep" of the two way walkie talkie feature qualifies as a pet-peeve because you feel obligated to answer the person. Probably because you can hear their voice, Beep-Beep "Hey Jess, whats up man" Beep. Arrrggghh!! :x

Here is another pet-peeve. I am full of them. Sometimes I am too nice of a guy, and I can be made to feel guilty about things easily at times. Here is an example. I was walking out of the grocery store the other day, and a group of Girl Scouts is posted up outside the door waiting for people to come out so they can beg them to buy a Girl Scout calendar. I'm thinking, "I'm 30 years old, unmarried, and have no kids, what the Hell would I do with a Girl Scout calendar", and "Why the hell would they ask me in the first place" I just kept walking and refused to make eye contact with either the girls or their Mom's who were sitting nearby. Waiting directly outside of the door is a shitty tactic because there is no other way out of the store. I refused being made to feel guilty this time, I kept walking. The Girl Scouts are not alone in this treacherous behavior. The Boy Scouts do it, the Salvation Army does it, the Shriners do it, and so do other groups of kids trying to raise money to go on a school trip. These are all worthy causes, however, I hate being begged for a donation. I hate being made to feel like a dick if I don't do it, and thats the emotion these groups capitalize on.

I give at Church, and occaisionally to charity, like victims of Hurricane Katrina, Aid to families of 9/11 victims, and the Tsunami that hit the Asian coastline. I shouldn't be "obligated" to throw money in every cup, bowl, pot, or urn thats pushed in my face.

Sorry for the rant, but this is a major pet-peeve.

Charity Fatigue, a new affliction for the Human condition.

People who think that others who don't believe the same things that they do are wrong, and should be forced to 'see the right way' I fucking hate that. That's what is destroying this world.

Well, you're right... Emo-kids really suck, but the worst categories of pink shirt wearing guys are:

1. Students of economics
2. Macho-rednecks (Yes, they REALLY wear pink shirts... The streets were full with it last summer. Imagine Steven Seagal with a pink poloshirt  You don't know if you should laugh or cry... )
