Drugs on stage...
Well I have a big discussion with a friend of me. She means that the music stars from today consum drugs and are drunken a lot! She told me that a world tour can't be survived without drugs because of jetlag, lack of sleep and so on. And my opinion, this situation existed in the 70ies and not yet. Today they can't play a good gig with drugs and to be drunken and the fans would be angry if they haven't a good concert.
So now I wanna know what you are thinking about. Have you got any pro or contra evidences? What have you seen on stage (drunken people, drugs and so on)? Tell me!

Re: Drugs on stage...
Well, you can do a good show when you're not drunken or under drugs, if you regularly do exercices (sports) and eat fruits, vegetables and meat. To have a good diet is important. And for the sleep, there are some herbal teas (cmomile tea, for example), milk, apples or some salads as the lettuce which can help. So, I believe that it's really possible to do a worldwide tour without using some junks...

I think when a band goes drunken on stage and performs bad, the crowd isn't be happy with the evening. There are so many bands and not many bands can allow to go on stage with drugs in the blood.
In the 70ies, it was nearly usual that drugs were a big business but today, the time has changed, isn't it

I think it's hard when you start out touring cos you're used to travelling around so much, but there's no need to take drugs, just build up tours gradually so you don't get tired
And i've just never seen the point of getting drunk.

And i've just never seen the point of getting drunk.

Well, the fact is that all the bands get drunk after the shows...or, sometimes before (the case of Paul di'Anno, some years ago).htcdude wrote:And i've just never seen the point of getting drunk.

Indeed! And i don't understand why some people could take some drugs during travels or tours or even in life. That's just my opinion.htcdude wrote:I think it's hard when you start out touring cos you're used to travelling around so much, but there's no need to take drugs, just build up tours gradually so you don't get tired

Agree with you! I don't get that point neither.
But i think that Not all the musicians are drunk after or before a show. After it depends of the mentality of the musician, his way to see the life and so on...
From some i've met, Not all are drunk, and Not everytime neither for some of them. That's a fact! We can't generalize!

Re: Drugs on stage...
Exactly. I know some bands members who are drunk almost all the time, that's just the way they like it. Funny cos if they play real good when they're drunk i wonder what they're like when they're sober!

The way kids(and non-kids)idolize&worship musicians, using Drugs onstage of ANY kind is not making a good impression. I mean, rockers can be sober&unhigh and still be very Cool with the audience.

By 'drugs' do you refer to hard substances such as heroin and cocaine? Weed (pot/skunk/hash/whatever) doesn't count in my book. I put it in the same category as alcohol, only less damaging.

But bands on stage really shouldn't take drugs or be drunken. The crowd gets it when the band isn't concentrated. As an example: Two Deftones-gigs. On one some of the band members seemed to be drunken, stoned or whatever. The gig was miserable and the fans were unsatisfied. Another gig of the same band: They were in top form, played excellent, and the mood was much better. I think it's no excuse that the members can stand such a tour only with drugs and stuff. Fuck, except alcohol and nikotin it's illegal anyway.

Re: Drugs on stage...
bullshit, it is all in your mind, the stage and touring can be eassily beared without consuming any kind of drugs (except aspirins).
You know, everything comes because of the "let's dare" spirit, i have lots of friends that are in this music bussines and they only drink beers to party, not feel better, neither they consume drugs.
Music is a lame excuse for doing drugs.

People can do whatever the hell they want off stage. A true professional however, will never let any substance use interfere with their performance. People pay to see you live, you owe it to them to give a srong show.

Re: Drugs on stage...
that is up to you, some poeple gets crazier on stage, some people cannot concentrate, some people plays better...it is risky, NeonVomit is right, if the audience paid to see you, the least you can do is offer quallity, they deserve respect.
But again, music has nothing to do with drugs, that's a stupid excuse

At the end, it doesn't matter if you are a musician, a junkie or a banker - drugs has to do with the meaning and attitude of a person.

Drugs are bad mmmokay?
Even coffee is. I drink coffee/capuucino about every 2 month. I don't like it, it makes me... dizzy? Dunno, but the fact is: I can't concentrate after drinking coffee.
And about musicians getting drunk. Have you heard about a guy named Timo Kotipelto?
I don't think, he is one of the drunken kind.

If someone takes drugs for his own and private benefit, it's his own problem. But they have no place on stage. One also shouldn't forget that as an artist he/she is in the public and also a rolel model. That cannot go hand in hand with performing under the influence of drugs.

Re: Drugs on stage...
I agree on the drugs being a lame excuse but...I also can understand why touring can get you down. I personally have always had BIG difficulties sleeping in buses, and especially when you start driving to the next gig straight after another, filled with adrenaline, sleeping is quite impossible...now do this let's say for 5 weeks with no days off, sharing a nightliner with 20 people. At that point drink and weed and relaxation start to look better day by day.neonlightchild wrote:bullshit, it is all in your mind, the stage and touring can be eassily beared without consuming any kind of drugs (except aspirins).

Music is a lame excuse for doing drugs.
And you know, generalizations are bad...I have been on stage very drunk and the audience have not seen the difference. Then some musicians just can NOT handle the drink at all. Some people can cut it, some don't.
But yeah, drugs are bad mmmmm'kay?
