That's the sound i woke up to on Saturday morning.

I thought it was thunder, but my house shook....and i fell back to sleep. When i spoke to some friends in the morning the told me a fuel depot had exploded about 20miles away. Must've been an awesome shockwave!! The blast could be heard over 100miles away.

Thankfully, and amazingly, no one was killed. The pollution is still hanging around the air now.

That was the highlight of my weekend.

I have read the news in my newspaper. There was a picture with the black pollution rising up to the sky and darkened the light. Was it an airplane that crashed into it?

Over 100miles?
Anybody says it is the worst explosion / disaster after the second world war...

No it wasn't an airplane crashing into it. Apparently it was just an accident, some fire started and spread..and that's not good at an oil depot.

And it was a big explosion, one of the worst in UK ever.

Thats kinda scary! I'm glad nobody was hurt. My first thought would've been earthquake.
Exciting topic to talk about, though--that rarely happens everyday! :D

I heard it on Sunday morning as well. I thought it was thunder, before going back to sleep.

It could be heard in France, apparently.

I saw that on TV. All I can say is that I can't wait until the world gets serious about finding alternatives to oil. Whether it's the toll oil takes on human life, or the toll it takes on the environment. Oil causes too much grief in the world.

Having said that, I am glad no one was killed or hurt.

Something similar happened to me once in the middle of the night. I heard a loud boom, and it shook the apartment, the pictures on the wall, etc. It wasn't until later in the day that I found out what it was. It was the Space Shuttle re-entering the atmosphere and hitting a sonic boom.

Furby: Loud sounds!

That's scary. Have they determined the cause yet?

Nope they're still looking into it. Just an accident apparently, but who knows these days.

Saw that too on TV :( sad thing that that kind of thing could happen anywhere but...even the hightest security measures don't matter, eventually something goes wrong... compare to Zernobyl or The China Phenomenon...
