Hip Hop

Well..actually i'm pretty sure there was a hiphop thread here yet, but i couldn't find it, so i started a new one.

we got this new metal thing here already.. many new metal bands combine some metal elements with hiphop, so..

anybody in here who likes hiphop? in my town hiphop is very popular--but sadly just the new shit, like 50Cent, Snoop, Eminem and all that stuff, u know..

I like many of those old skool bands, like Public Enemy, Run DMC or Beastie Boys..

I've discovered some song today, it's "Steh wieder auf" by "Deine Lieblingsrapper". This band is a project by two famous german rappers, Sido and Harris. Actually they both have many influences on kids in germany, which is quite sad, Sido's biggest hit in the charts was a song, in which he rapped about his first anal sex experience.

But this song.. I don't know.

I can't sleep right now, so i've translated it a bit:

I'm living every day as it was my last
trying to spoil her with all extras
loving the live since the birth of my childs
i'm moving my ass just because of the love to my family
i'm doing everything for my blood
i can do what i want, i'm always thinking i'm not doing enough
i'm living my life as good as i can, although it doesn't work, i'm trying man
i could easily live in the jail just as my mates
i had luck and realized it was enough and now i'm standing here

that's a quite good text in my oppinion.. i like it very much
but then it goes on:

i'm living my life, screw you, you're pushing me to the bottom, but i'll stand up again
listen, i'm looking forward, and i see everything will be fine, can you see that, too?
fast, go the hotel, let's party!
and when the woman doesn't want, just take the one next to her
all together now!

well.. the last sentence.. it's a bit sexistic, right?

ok now this.. i don't like it.. now that's really sexistic and bad..

i'm living every day as it was my first
i'm screwing what i've learned yesterday
i'm screwing every of your rules, though it sounds good, i can't buy me anything for that
i like people who are messing up everything always, i'm keen on string, drugs and little women
they say that i'm looking nice, i say "go, take your clothes off, ey!"
Come on, let's destroy my hotel room! hotels are always regreting that they are letting me in,
and i hope it'll stay that way!

but now.. here comes the part i like the most

live your life, even when you're in the army
live your life, even when it isn't healthy
live your life as single mother
live your life and listen so Sigi and Harry
Just like us, we're trying to make the best of it
i can cry later, now i want to laugh

you're having an aim, when you're having a dream, make it true
show everybody what you got, look in you're heart, i'm sure you're having dreams, too
it doesn't have to be the expensivest car, the most important thing is that i don't have to go hungry today
even when the whole world's against you, do it like Deine Lieblingsrapper, live your life now!

i mean.. some of the parts of this song are spreading a good message, right?

wow, nice work, Dave!

Actually I don't like HipHop very much. I like NewMetal, but pure HipHop or even Rap is nothing for me. Of course there are a few exceptions. Especially "Die Fantastischen Vier" are really cool. But in general that music is too boring for me.

Rap sucks. Plain and simple. They should re-title it "entertainment", because it isn't music. Music requires instruments. Not spoken words, gutteral noises made from one's mouth and stomach, sampled music from 1970's era funk and disco, drum machines, and scratched records.

If I want to hear spoken words I'll go see a stand up comedian, a motivational speaker, or go to church.

If I need to hear rhymes I'll read a Dr.Suess book.

My opinion.

IMO (speaking from a north american point of view, of course), the industry was FAR better off when it was dominated by the West coast. Now that the South side has taken control over the mainstream, hip hop has really lost everything it once stood for. It's pretty much 100% ass shaking now, which is really a shame.

My pronouncement: Sadly, hip hop is dead.

*ClickWitch curls up in a ball and cries*

...On the other hand, if hip hop hadn't died, I probably wouldn't have gotten so much into power metal..

I really dislike HipHop. I dunno but I cannot understand what is cool at that stuff of music. I am boring everytime I hear HipHop, it is the worst music I know and I'd prefer to hear some techno music instead of HipHop - I'm not kidding.

Yesterday I have seen a small Edguy-DVD with an interview. Tobi says (and he's fkn right): In the mainstream, the major's bring the music to the crowd, in the metal scene, the crowd comes to the music. And that is the fact, that in the mainstream bands growing up and falling down next days. In metal, there's a continuation and that is the basic/reason that HipHop will die one day and metal/rock will nevernever die! I'm sure you own any Deep Purple or Zeppelin albums in your archive.... that's the evidence for these words...

I think the same too. And this is one of the reasons, why I don't watch TV that much anymore.

I don't like hip-hop too much anyway. I think, it's really boring, the background music is so plain and monotone. But I like Gangsters Paradise. And the Weird Al Yankovich version rulez the world. :D

I defenitely hate this kind of music.
Ok it is exaggerated to call this thing music.
Anyway here are some reasons why I hate HipHop so much:

->Misogynous
->Exalts Drugs
->Glorifying violence
->Grammatically wrong
->No use of Instruments
->Faithless & Soulless
->Barbarizes the youth
->No singing qualities
->Stultification
->Undemanding

Result: HipHop is a bunch of whisking shit :roll:

EDIT: BTW I refer to the HipHop nowadays

Beastie Boys would beg to differ on the majority of your reasons.

You'd get better music if you put a bunch of Kindergarteners in a room with a bongo, a plastic tambourine, a jug, a kazoo, and a cheap little casio keyboard.

At least they'd be making an effort to create MUSIC.

Rap and Hip Hop (didn't know there was a difference) is nothing more than an agent the establishment uses to dumb down the youth. Especially in this country. Anybody here who hates the U.S. and resents us as a superpower, take heart. Once these kids who grew up dumb start assuming roles in positions of power, we won't be a superpower anymore. China will be.

Sorry if that pisses people off.

So would I.

Unfortunately, a lot of people's opinion is based on absolute ignorance.

And who's more ignorant to 30 years of hip hop than a pack of teenaged metalheads?

I agree 100% with this. Now I am taking bets on how long it will take for the new era of rap to die out. Either by lack of demand or just the fact that their is no one left to carry it on after they all kill themselves by constant drive bys.

Mostly I don´t like hip-hop but there are still few artists I like. You mentioned the old Run DMC, that´s good stuff, and a bit newer stuff like Cypress Hill and Erick Sermon are acceptable for me. What I hate in hip hop is the videos. Every video has the same script & cliches: boobs, half-naked girls, cars, jewellery, gold necklaces and plenty of guns. :puke:

Don't even bother, Nigel. I gave up arguing years ago. Either you get it, or you don't. Sad but true.

From Wikipedia: "Music is an art, entertainment, or other human activity which involves organized and audible sound."

Touché.

And if music needs instruments, isn't it music if someone is just singing something? I think that it is music too.

Anyway, IMO rap sucks hard.

Exactly! What about a capalle jazz or madrigals or something?

A capella etc. singing is good and is categorized as music, but when it´s just speaking then it isn´t...

exactly, it is your opinion, not the whole truth of facts, so you'd better say you don't like it instead using the word "sucks".
