St. Valentine ;-)

St.Valentine's day will come soon...

What will you do this day?

What will you present to your sweetheart?

And what was the greatest gift which was given to you or from you to another in this day?
Well,, as for me, I think that unfortunately I'll be so lonely in this day... I'll go to work and then I'll go home and then I'll go to bed. Alone.

And of course I'll present nothing to nobody...
As for the greatest gift - I remember the last year. We were together with my boyfriend and he presented me a bascet of white tulipes! He went through the restaurant with that bascet in his hands and everybody watched and envied me!

This day is not so important when you love someone cause then, you can celebrate it everyday during the whole year.
And i don't say necessarly to offer some flowers of something else everyday neither...As love is already there it's the most beautiful present i guess.
I think this day is in a more commercial way since few years already.

Valentine's day has absolutely nothing to do with the original concept any more. It is a day for consumer whores and commercialization to make extra money for people to make cheap gestures of 'love' to each other. Why not love each other on the other 364 days of the year? No, today, because the corporations and the money making machine that is consumerism tells you to, and like sheep, most people follow.
Valentine's day is a load of crap, and always has been. My girlfriend and I will be doing whatever we would usually be doing on any other Tuesday. I don't have to make an extra effort to show her how much I love her, that happens in any case on any other day. If you need a special day as an excuse to show your boyfriend/girlfriend how much you 'love' them, then maybe you're not in the right relationship.
No, I'm not in a good mood.

I know what you mean! Everything these days is about commercialism; Valentine's, Christmas, Easter, even Guy Fawkes, have all nearly lost their meanings completely, it sucks.

Well duh bunnies are cute and people like them, so we can sell lots of toy rabbits. Eggs... has something to do with springtime and new re-birth, so yeah, let's make them out of chocolate so all the kids'll want one! A stuffed Jesus toy on a crucifix wouldn't be as easy to market...
Bah I'm a cynical motherfucker today.

we're conditioned to like valentines day... it's just all commercial and what not...
on a similar note, when i was in highschool, i had a teacher who really didn't like the idea of the school celebrating valentines day; his thought on it was that it was so aimed at straight people that he didn't want anybody else to not be included in something... like, if something has to be all commercial and cheesy, why not make it commercial and cheesy for everyone? i kind of agree with him on that -- which has nothing to do with my own sexual orientation.
i guess it can be fun for some people, but if you don't have anything to do, our culture makes you feel like shit about it. and that's truly unfair. as i said, everyone should be included in this stuff, cheesy & commercial or otherwise... (i love being by myslef, and i have no problems when i'm single, or just happen to be alone. it's just another day. )
i don't think i'll be doing anything. i might get my girlfriend something as a joke, but we've already agreed not to succumb to all that crap
anyway, sorry for the ramble

I probably shouldn't answer to this question, since my sweetheard read this forum, and then it won't be a surprise anymore!
However, I agree with Iron_thunder.
Valentine's Day is just a commercial celebration (just like Christmas).
For ex, it's a good excuse for florists to increase their prices!
I think it's stupid to wait one day to offer a present to your dear, to have a romantic time with him/her, or to simply tell him/her that you love him/her!

Up until a couple years ago I'd make a special valentine for my son--I'd decorate ie with lace&ribbons&use old English writing to decorate it.
Last year I was cleaning out his closet&found a little box, being curious as usual I opened it&all the valentines I'd handmade for him were in that box! I thought he had thrown them all away! Needless to say, I got tears in my eyes, knowing he had kept them.
When I was married my Ex always bought me a box of candy.
And sometimes I'd buy him one, too.
But, yes, Valentine's Day is basicly a day to sell flowers, cards&stuff. Things that we can give to our loved ones all year long!

I agree with some of you. Just think that the Valentine´s Day is cheesy crap, only nonsense. That´s why I don´t celebrate it at all. If I´d have a girlfriend, the situation still would be the same that I don´t see anything special in the valentine-concept.

Well, the only commercial thing I'm gonna do that day is pay good money for one bus company to get from a place to another

my sweetheart has her birthday 'round St. Valentine's so the best gift I can give to her and myself, is to be with her, close to her and loving her

we aren't ablo to meet so often so this is the very best thing we can do
and, even if I would want to buy her all the nice things... I can't! Since I don't have the money...

at least I can give myself

isn't love allways the most perfect gift around this day?

Totally agree too, I used to do that, but I also used to celebrate St. Valentine's day. But now I don't wanna think about that.

I absolutely dislike Valentine's Day. When I was together with my last girlfriend I always gave her presents on Valentine's Day. But somehow it was primarily because she awaited it and everybody did so.

Why does that day exist? There are so many other days when I really love(d) to give presents to my girlfriend: Her birthday, Christmas, our anniversary, ... So why having Valentine's Day? It's completely unnecessary.

That´s just the point I agree too when talking about why I´m ignoring the Valentine´s Day.

The day of Saint Valentine (San Valentino) is very important for out city: he is our patron saint, we have in St: Valentine's cathedral his mortal remains. I'm not interested in religious feast, I like the events, the fair, and the fireworks.
Concerning Valentine's Day and their hearts, their gift etc, I like it but not too much, i will receive a little present and I'll buy somthing for my fiance.
And this is all

You didn't know? I always thought it was quite a powerful and beautiful, but very sad story. And because of that, it just further infuriates me to see how no one remembers Dr. Valentinus himself. No, instead chocolates and little heart shapes are more important.

The last Valentines Day I had with my fiancee (now ex) I took her to Bucca Di Beppo (Italian restaurant) for dinner, then I got us a room at the Hard Rock Hotel, gave her some chocolates, and some lingerie. You can guess what went on that night, but as for material gifts she got me a couple of nice dress shirts, and a bottle of Cool Water cologne.
