What do you think about it? Is it true?

Very possible in some cases. Sometimes two people simply aren't meant for each other, and staying together will cause them to hate each other. Parting on good terms before things get nasty is a way of showing how much you care for the other person.

Possible and strictly necessary when it comes to parent-child relationships (although that's probably not what you had in mind). As a parent you have to let your children go and let them be their own persons; it's for their own benefit.

That's what I did.

sometimes it can be so cruel and hard, but it's the truth. I'm in a situation where I maybe should do that. But I don't have the strength yet.

Hmm, it's a difficult question. IF it's meant the way Nordic meant it, then it's absolutely true. But at relationships? Why would you let someone, that you love, if you can have him/her? If we take my and Verena's situation of last year, then of course we did not want to let the other go. How could that be a love, if we did not meet each other, eventhough we could have.
If you can't meet someone yet, then there's no talk about letting go. You can't let go someone, that you can't meet.
Well, what situation did you mean Morgana?

In case of love it can mean: You love somebody, who doesn't love you. But because you love the other one you wish that he/she will be happy, even if it's not with you, so you have to let him/her go. That's how I understand it.

Or if your partner finds a new love, and you let him/her go, so he/she can get the best for the moment.

I agree with Nordic, but the case B_p presented goes along the lines of what I think

Sometimes we have to love someone enough to let them go because they would be better off without us. That was why my Ex said he left me because we could not get along&there was abuse. He said for my&our son's own good, and because he loved us in his own way, he let us go to keep fromhurting us any furthur. If he had not cared at all, he would have stayed and continued to hurt us.
But, applying Morgana's premise to a parent-child relationship it is true but so painful to see your child make mistakes, yet hold back to let them learn their lesson&grow from it. I really miss the closeness my son&I had when he was younger--we are still close, of course, but now he is getting more&more out in the world, working&traveling here and there. I just feel helpless sometimes, but I know he has to learn to do everything/become a full-fledged adult because I won't be around always.

Same.
Beast_Pete, I didn't mean anything, it was just a question to think. And of course I didn't mean my and HIS situation

Yes, I think so. Sometimes that, and sometimes one way of saying "I love myself" too, I guess...
