I told some dude that I liked Stratovarius. He told me to try some Dream Theater. What songs do you guys suggest me?

Uh oh.
I suggest you listen to a few songs from each album. Start with 'A Fortune In Lies' from When Dream And Day Unite album.
I'll leave the rest up to the other Dream Theater geeks on this forum.

I like Dream Theater but in the moment I'm trying don't think about the band because I couldn't go to the concert in my country

You just have to listen to Train Of Thought. That album is off the hook.

My beginning was Metropolis Part2: Scenes from a Memory. And I can promise, when you heard this album, you won't give away it! But beware: I only listen it when I have 80minutes for it because it's like ONE story...!
Or taste Images and Words!

Octavarium and Images and Words are the albums that I like most...
But if you like ballads you shoud try somethings for Scenes from a Memory, bescause that's a very good album too.

Yeah, I recommend Train Of Thought. It's more metal and less wankery.
By the way, I'm not by any means a DT nerd, so feel free to completely disregard my opinion..
And for the record, I'm not really clear on how someone comes up with "Hey, you like Stratovarius?! Try Dream Theater!".

The two bands have some common elements (very high levels of skill on all instruments, complex songwriting) so it's easy to see how one person can appreciate both.

Aaaaand here's my 'I'm-now-just-being-a-pain-in-your-ass' moment for the day:
"Hey, you like Stratovarius and Dream Theater?! Try Benny Goodman!"
This will truly separate the men from the dorks.

Try to listen, without any other thing to do, and if possible desconnect phones and stuff like that, the OCTAVARIUM album. It's simply Magic.

I really wasn't impressed by Octavarium. Train of Thought and Six Degrees of Inner Turbulance were much better in my opinion.

I`ll vote for that! Get Liquid Tension Experiment, mostly same band, no commerce.

I can give you an advice about a DT album : "Image And Words". The best DT album, according to me. "Pull Me Under" and "Metropolis" are great songs.

Well these songs are really good, I can't say something negative about it. But on the Metropolis 2, a 86minutes story with highs and lows, with passages of pain and love, of trouble and peace, of a relaxing beginning and a very surprising end!!!! It's like a movie -
ENJOY! -
Train of Thoughts also is one of the best of DT. It's a wonderful piece!

Well, my 3 favorite DT albums are Octavarium, Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence and Images and Words, those 3 are just genious
but beware, i found DT to be harder to listen than strato becuase they are more complex and vary a lot, even the same song but their songs have mostly grown up on me, very few were instant classics (Though Metropolis pt 1, The Glass Prison, About to Crash, Space Dye Vest and Stream of Conciousness deserve honorary mention for kicking ass from the first time I listened to them)

They're the most boring band on the planet...sure enough they're talented, great musicians, but for me, their music just bores me.

As opposed to Dragonforce and HammerFall?

I think Scenes From A Memory is the easier Dream Theater album to listen to. With it you will turn crazy about them.

Then you can continue listening to the rest of their discography.

I can't believe u call them boring. And u like DrangoForce. I listened to that song of DragonForce, one of the new ones, (Fire and flames?) and I felt like I was listening to a song in Valley of the Damned. The same shit, the same shit, all over again. And u say DT is boring? Dude.
I mean...dude...

wOOt DT is IMO one of the best Bands in the whole fucking world.
This high technical pretentious songs with great intelligent lyrics just kick my ass.
The old albums and the newer albums as well.
By the way do they have the best drummer and one of the three greatest guitarists in the world in their band.
Yeah DT is the ultimate mixture of Metal and Progressive Rock.
Ok you can have your own opinion about these guys,
but calling their music "boring" is maybe the consequence of a prematured comprehension for such exacting and versatile music.
Nevertheless are "Images And Word" and "Awake" the best ProgMetal Albums ever.
