Once again I am looking forward to an awesome time at Wacken, but don't want to miss any good bands that I haven't heard of. Please could you help me out by giving a rating out of 10 for any of the bands you know on the list and telling me what type of metal they play.

Gamma Ray -> 9.9/10

They are my favourite band, they play quite fast Heavy/Power metal, like Stratovarius, but with two guitars instead of the keyboards.

Opeth and Wintersun are AWESOME, and many others of those artists too (and there is Motörhead!

)

Hmm, Emperor have told that they're going to do just one summer fest gig so looks like they're not coming to Tuska

Yeah, I know them, they're awesome. They are the main band I'm going for this year. n It was Edguy lart year,eChildren of Bodom the Year before and Slayer the year before that (Stratovarius played but I'd never heard of them).

Any others on there that you recognise?

I only rate the bands I've heard more than a couple songs from:

Amon Amarth
Great viking metal. 8/10

Battlelore
Not-that-bad band with Tolkien-based lyrics. I don't like their female sioger at all though. 6/10

Children of Bodom
I didn't like their latest album, but good band anyway. 8/10

Finntroll
A band that mixes Black Metal with humppa and sings about trolls and drinking. You definetly have to see them!

10/10

Gamma Ray
One of the greatest and most influentical power metal bands ever. 10/10

Korpiklaani
An original folk metal -band which, for me, starts to sound a bit dull after a while but might be good live. 8/10

Motorhead
Of course you have to see the legendary Motörhead.

9/10

Primal Fear
Basic heavy/power metal with some catchy songs. 7/10

Wintersun
Former Ensiferum singer/guitarist's band that just released in my opinion one of the greatest debut albums ever. 9/10

Aborted - 10/10, fine brutal death/grindcore, I've seen them live and they are great
Amon Amarth - 10/10, viking death metal, very headbangable and also great live
Die Apokalyptischen Reiter - no grades here, weird metal.

Emperor - 10/10, great black metal band, one of the founders of the genre.
End of Green
Fear Factory - 8.5/10, I love industrial and I love this band, though the quality of their albums is not consistent.
Finntroll - 1000000/10. No further comments, just go and see them.
Fleshgore
Gamma Ray - 9/10, one of my favorite power metal bands.
In Extremo - 10000000/10, a must-see. They play folk-metal, doing both their own songs and various european folk songs.
Korpiklaani - same as Fintroll and In Extremo, great band, great music, must be great live.
Krieger
Lake of Tears
Legion of the Damned
Metal Inquisitor
Minstry - gods of industrial metal.
Motorhead - is there anyone here who doesn't know them?
Michael Schenker Group
Mystic Circle
Nevermore - 7/10, I tried to listen to them several times, never found anything special or worth attention. They paly sort of power/speed metal.
Nocturnal Rites - 6/10, generic power metal.
Opeth - 9/10, progressive death metal, music that requiers lots of patience.
Orphaned Land - 10000000000/10, a must see. They play oriental death/ doom metal with lots of other influences like progressive, middle eastern folk and many others. I've seen them live few times, great live act, a definite must-see.

The Scorpions - classic hard rock/heavy metal.
Six Feet Under - 0/10, the most boring death metal ever created.
Soilwork
Soulfly
Subway to Sally - 8/10, another german folk-metal band.

I agree with Fanius & Mormegil about Wintersun. Simply more than awesome band and yes, they managed to made one of the best debut albums ever.

Their style is bad to describe, because they have influences from melodeath, folk, power, black etc. (but usually titled as a melodic death). My rating for Wintersun is pure 10/10.

Wacken will be dark this year.

it's a great band, sings in German, much better than Rammstein

my recommentations go for it, weird music perhaps, but it's great

Ektomorf 8/10 - great Hungarian Trash/Hardcore/Alternative-mix. You can compare them a bit to Soulfly, but they have their independent style, and their live-shows are devastating!

Gamma Ray 9/10 - not much to say. Great Melodic PowerMetal! And very good live band.

Rose Tattoo 5/10 - kind of a classic rock band. Personally I find them a little bit boring.

The Scorpions 9/10 - Hard Rock at it's best! You will find all those 100.00 people singing with every single of their song!

Six Feet Under 4/10 - Not my taste. Boring trash, their live show was (when I saw them) not very exciting

Soulfly 9/10 - haha, there we go! If Max Cavalera is in a good mood, you will see one of the best shows. If not, it might be a bit annoying.

Even in my opinion Jari Mäenpää is the best Finnish metal guitarist together with Tolkki. He is pure awesome player and songwriter. And can sing good in many ways too!
