There are two forum-related award-topics, but none started one that every forum is required to have?

So:
1. Iron Maiden - A Matter Of Life And Death (Greatest Maiden since 80's \m/)
2. Eternal Tears Of Sorrow - Before The Bleeding Sun
3. Blind Guardian - A Twist In The Myth
4. Tarot - Crows Fly Black
5. Edguy - Rocket Ride
6. Strapping Young Lad - The New Black
7. Queensrÿhe - Operation Mindcrime II (Great album despite it's name)
8. Angra - Aurora Consurgens
9. Lordi - The Arockalypse (Seriously, it's a good album and has Udo Dirkschneider of Accept as a guest-vocalist

)
10. Luca Turilli's Dreamquest - Lost Horizons
...
11. Rhapsody Of Fire - Triumph Or Agony (I know I called this their worst but after more listening it's quite decent actually)
EDIT: Added Tarot - Crows Fly Black
Bad:
Luca Turilli - Infinite Wonders Of Creation (U2 goes power metal. Didn't work for me)
And just because I love listing stuff:
Songs:
1. Eternal Tears Of Sorrow - Angelheart, Ravenheart
2. Queensrÿche (feat. Ronnie James Dio) - The Chase
3. Angra - Ego Painted Grey
4. Blind Guardian - Otherland
5. Iron Maiden - Brighter Than A Thousand Suns
6. Queensrÿche - I'm American
7. Blind Guardian - Fly
8. Strapping Young Lad - Wrongside

Wow, do you happen to know who these guys are, and where are they from?
My friends from the symphonic prog band Glass Hammer had a prog/metal band called "Wyzards" for many years.
They released an awesome CD in 1997 called "The Final Catastrophe", which really rocked. (My avatar is their album cover, btw)
They had to change the spelling from "Wizards" to "Wyzards" due to another band having the same spelling. That mystery has been solved!
I'll have to tell Steve, David, and Fred that they have a fraternal "twin" of sorts.

They are from Brazil. They are a clone of Angra (André Matos period) and Shaaman.
I happened to know them because the album was really cheap on ebay so I give it a try.
Sorry to know about your friends band. I am not so sure that it's that Wizards band which is the reason why your friend had to change their band name, because this brazilian is a really small band (except maybe in Brazil, I dunno ?).

I'll have to check them out, at the very least for the curiosity factor.

No problem at all, especially since the Glass Hammer thing takes up most of their time now. On a positive note, the spelling change in the name makes it much easier to filter search results on Google for "Wyzards" as opposed to "Wizards"

Iron Maiden - A Matter Of Life And Death (but I'm a total fanboy anyway)
Blind Guardian - A Twist In The Myth
Black Bile - Cloacal Meditation (I severely doubt anyone here has heard of them, but they rule)
Other than that... not many albums of 2006 really caught my imagination. Maybe I've been too busy immersed in Winter's Verge to explore new material, I've mostly been going through bands' older stuff...

greatest album 2006?
Semtex - Arise:Breathe:Nothing?
followed by Deftones' "Saturday Night Wrist" (which I didn't like in the first place, but happen to love it now!

)
Songs? Hmm... Very changeable...
Hole in the Earth or
Kimdracula by Deftones,
Livin' Lifeless (Sepcys),
The Hunt or others from Semtex.
Those were THE masterpieces for me this year.

I think I haven't bought a single CD that was released this year. The newest one I think is Porcupine Tree's Deadwing, which is pretty cool.
But, I've made one great discovery that is worth missing some new albums, namely a band called The Clash! Not the kind of monotonous punk crap you might think, they are incredibly versatile, mixing punk, good ol' rock, ska and rocksteady.
NP: The Clash - Charlie Don't Surf

Wuthering Heights - The Shadow Cabinet
This band is amazing.
EDIT: Falconer - Northwind
Another great album, especially because I really like Mathias Blad. He represents a hope for the baritones.

Hmm... In fact I think that I've bought only few albums and singles which are released this year (though this year I have bought more albums than ever)

I'm a bigger fan of older music!
However, my albums of year 2006 titles goes to:
Subaudition - The Scope
Beautiful music! I love this.
Iron Maiden - A Matter of Life and Death
Though it's not so perfect album it's still the best Iron Maiden album since "Fear of the Dark". Lots of good songs.
Impaled Nazarene - Pro Patria Finlandia
Nice and mindless Impaled album
Dvds
Bruce Dickinson - Anthology
Excellent dvd from the master!

Drudkh - Blood In Our Wells.
Holy freakin' christ. Phenomenal achievement from this Ukranian black-folk metal band. Truly astounding.
Blind Guardian made a good effort, too.

I haven't got many 'new out' cd's this year but these are my favourite 3 that have come out this year.
1 * Falconer - Northwind
2 * Ensiferum - Dragonheads
3 * Blind Gaurdian - A Twist In The Myth
