The European Storms

Post by browneyedgirl » Fri Jan 19, 2007 3:37 am

I read BBC and watch the news on TV. It does not sound good at all!!
But, you all who witnessed it&went through it, was it as bad as was reported?
100+ mph winds!
Germany&UK got the worse hit, right? Also, Austria&Netherlands got hit pretty badly as well.
The last I hear it was moving toward Finland&Sweden. ???

Are you all OK?

well we should get used to this... Yesterday all the railroads were closed, flight connections cancelled. A couple of people died. It's now for some years the same sequence of incidences: In the US heavy blizzards break in, and in Europe warm thunderstorms haunt instead of a cold winter.

We could start a discussion about global warming again, eh? But, better not, it doesn't change anything. Anyways, in some way it's too late. If it is really the influence of mankind that makes climate changing, it's too late to undo it.

I went out for a walk yesterday. It was warm and sunny, about 19C. There were butterflies and stuff.

I did get some mud on my shoes though, that was annoying.

(btw I'm currently in Cyprus, so that explains it :D)

Dude, do you read the news? :)

There are no storm in Finland, so far. But it's unusually warm, at least in the south where I live. We haven't had a real winter yet. The water is exceptionally high too, they send some boys from the military to throw sandbags in the harbour. In Sweden they've had some major problems with trees falling on the cable lines.

You're mean! But that's ok, cause I'll take one week off from the univeristy next month and bugger off to Barcelona. 8)

No it's not, some of the damage is done. But we can still prevent a lot of harm.

Well we have nice winter here in northern Finland, I don't know about south...
And yes, I knew about those storms, but that was just ironic comment because we don't have any storms :)

Here in Rotterdam the sun is shining now. No wind at all, but yesterday. I didn't go outside but my daughter did go to school yesterday.
There was a lot of traffic here around my place because I am living near the highway.

A lot of people spend the night somewhere else. In big sportvenues or share a taxi with other people to get home. No trains at all yesterday. It was almost a complete chaos.

And also a lot of bridges were closed.

Nothing here. I don't think it will reach here anyway. Though I heard the storm will take a turn and go until Romania at some point. I'll wait and see...

I remember when the horrible hurricane(KATRINA)hit New Orleans some ignorant people said that hurricane was God's punishment for the "loose" sexual lifestyle alot of New Orleans is rumored to have. And, someone said, "Are you crazy? If that were true, Scandelnavia, and <insert several other known "sexually wild" countries> would've been wiped off the map, including Las Vegas, LA&NYC!"

Of course! No other country produces CO2 emissions, duh! China has uber-technology that makes coal smoke into lavander-scented fresh air, India has a similar thing that smells of roses, and Europe produces nothing but pure oxygen.

Probably the India Rose smell is the incense from all the outdoor funeral services held beore the bodies are ceremonially dropped into the rivers as burial---millions of people every year. No hungry crocs there, anyway.
Oh, I could make a sarcastic joke out of that Europe statement, but I'll leave that to miditek, he is much more articulate than I am. ;)

Well, I believe to be classed as tolerant a person has to hear both sides of an issue. You do not have to agree with the idea/theory/opinion presented, but you don't have to call someone an arrogant idiot who simply presents an idea that differs from yours.
OK. Here is a link debunking the Global Warming theory. I don't say I agree, but to be truly open-minded a person needs to study BOTH sides of an issue, calmy.

Thats good, I guess because lots of people wanted snow. :)
BTW, the reason the scientists in the article said plant life was going to florish is that it is theorized that more CO2 is going to be produced by heating of the atmosphere. So, since plants use CO2, it is thought more plants will thrive under those conditions. ??? I guess we will see! ???

Yes, even here in Finland. Today it has been a chaos in the freeways and highways in Southern Finland because of heavy snowing. Also the weather looks to be stay quite cold or more cold in Finland, finally.

yeah but the topic was in fact about the storms of one week ago. You must had them in France, too. They were really devastating. A couple of people here in Germany died, more than one day there was no railroad traffic, no planes, more than a billion euro in damages....

The storms has caused some trouble here.
Had my own experience when we were going to play in Toulouse a few days ago( on tour with Therion and Grave Digger at the moment).
The road got blocked from the storm and we had to cancel the gig.
It sucked because I was going to meet with Patricia there.Had been looking forward to it for quite a while.
