No, its not a new parasite----its a computer trojan that has popped up the past few days&has infected almost 2 million computers.
Watch out for those E-Mail attachments! Storm is said to be as virilent as the Sober Virus was in 2005.

Yep, sure have. A nasty critter to be sure, but one of many tens of thousands out there.

Somehow I always manage to miss all these virus news. Nothing ever happened to my computer. Oh well...

Yup. If you get questionable attatchments in your emails, then don't run them...simple! And if you have an effective antivirus going which is properly updated, you'll be fine.

It's common sense really. Don't just mindlessly open everything you get in your inbox! And always have your important data backed up (external hard drives are getting cheaper and cheaper, back up your system files and other important stuff on one and keep it safe somewhere) and you have nothing to fear!

Some people are truly retarded in regards to basic PC security, such as opening unknown attachments from unknown senders. This problem is then compounded by not keeping their anti-virus definitions updated, if they even have anti-virus at all..

Once while working at a previous employer, I got three hundred e-mails in a row from "Marilyn", a co-worker. I forgot that particular worm's name, but it was a nasty one.

Took down both of the firm's sites, infected nearly all of the PC's and servers, attacked her address book, which in turn, took down a bank that we'd just picked up as a client!

After working a thirty + hour shift to contain the issue, the big boss came in and asked, "How much did that Symantec Anti-Virus for MS Exchange Server cost? Order a site license today! And by the way, you really need to go home and get some sleep."

Thats where Webtv has one good point, it cannot run attachments, and its immune to viruses. Webtv is something that is considered not worth messing with anyway, so noone tries to come up with anything that can harm its system.
I think once a weird virus hit Webtv where when a person disconnected it would call 911--something like that.
Anyway, they finally caught the guy&he's doing 5 years for hacking, I think. LOL! Can you imagine the laughs he got when he went to prison&other inmates asked him why he was there--"Oh, I hacked WebTV!"

Well these might be 2 reasons:

1-They think they are extremely popular.
2-They are stupid.


Opening emails from ppl that you don't know is like opening the regular mail and be expose to get anthrax. Looking at it from a Bush-perspective.

Tell a tax troll (junior accountant) in the business world not to open something, and guess what? That's the very first thing that they'll do.

You can have triple layers of Symantec (or McAfee or Trend Micro) Anti-Virus Enterprise Edition, on desktops/servers, the mail system, and at the gateway level, and there will still be some people that will e-mail and ask, "Why can't I open this witty worm file thingy?"

(The short answer is that the SESA server has just quarantined it, and no we will not retrieve it for you to open!)

Then try sending out a memo out that is labeled "Corporate Security Policy" and I can all but guarantee that it will go straight to the recycle bin without ever being opened, let alone read.

Fortunately, most members of the stratoforum are much more technically savvy than some of these former co-workers.

Someday a very intelligent nutcase will probably come up with some Virus or worm that will do serious, non-repairable damage no matter what precautions are taken.
