Hmmm, seems like Albert Gore, Jr. has been nominated for a Nobel Prize for his incessant chatter about global warming. I guess that Al will soon save the world from being reduced to cinders by UV rays, just like he invented the Internet.

It's interesting that he's been nominated to win the same type of award as Yasser Arafat.

Gore must be jealous of old friend Jimmah Cahtuh's Nobel prize for being Hamas' leading spokesman, pitchman, apologist and tour guide in the underground tunnels originating from the Egyptian side of the border.

(Note: We got about 3 inches of snow (7.62cm) of snow last night in my city, so much for global warming. It has been colder than hell here for the last several days.)

Also, I am wondering what Gore's motivations were regarding the cancellation of his Danish TV appearance (scheduled months in advance), where he was supposed to discuss these issues with writer Bjorn Lomborg, author of "The Skeptical Environmentalist" ?

Yeah, for the past several days we have had way BELOW Normal Temps here in the Heart of Dixie! And, they are supposed to continue for another week or longer before it even gets to 50F. Believe me, that is very Chilly for Alabamy.

I don't know how many times I've said this.

"Global Warming" is a misnomer. It is technically accurate, but misleading to those who can't be bothered to think about the issue more carefully, and without a political slant.

"Climate Change" is a more appropriate term. It means the world's climate is changing. If it really kicks in, the British Isles will have a climate similar to that of Iceland. Storms will become more severe and frequent. Weather will become far more unpredictable.

I don't think it's kicking in yet, but perhaps the freezing winter in Texas is a sign of it? And the record hurricane season of 2005? I say these things with only theoretical proof, but they should get you thinking.

How can polluting the earth's atmosphere possibly be a good thing? How can political affiliations possibly interfere with the simple concept of the world's ecosystems and climate being a balancing act, and that if we don't watch out, we'll push it over?

I am sick and tired of seeing the environment as a political issue, and people opposing environmental protection purely because of their affiliation. It should be a scientific issue and not for clowns in expensive suits on tv trying to prostitute themselves out to the populus and squeeze votes out of an apathetic electorate who are more concerned where their next cheap thrill will come from.

We need to clean up our act. How long can we get away with this?

I praise Al Gore for I think his efforts are sincere in trying to raise awareness. However I will never forgive that bitch wife of his for the crimes she tried to commit against Metal...

I can understand if somebody questions that global warmning is caused by man, although that is getting increasinly difficult. But saying there is no warming at all is ignorant. Global warming is a fact, the debate is over. Glaciers are melting, the permafrost in Siberia is melting and sea levels are rising.

Many politicians think only few years in advance, they lack the vision one needs to achieve something. The idea of losing the next elections is far worse than mixing sweet water from the glaciers with the Golf Stream, for example.

Not that I think politicians are the only ones to blame. People are too fond of their big cars, swimming pools, air conditioning etc.

Permafrost has nothing to do with cold winters. Siberian permafrost is retreating due to warmer summers. A harsh winter does not make permafrost deeper or prevent it from retreating in the summer. Like NeonVomit said, the temperatures are not rising evenly.

Global warming is a misnomer.

The ice storms in Texas are not a normal occurrance, are they? As I said, perhaps that was just a freak occurrance, perhaps it's a sign of something bigger.

Oh, and when I was in Helsinki in November, everyone was complaining about how unseasonably warm it was. There was no snow in Helsinki, in November.

All of the major pollutant generating factories, such as Combustion Engineering, Rockwell International, Volunteer Army Ammunition Plant, and many others are simply gone now. Leaded gasoline has been outlawed, and is no longer sold.

Moreover, you can't even register your automobile and get license plates now without first going through an annual emissions check. If your car fails, then you don't get a license plate or registration until you take your car to a mechanic for repairs. It's as simple as that.

However, the Dhimmicrats in the Tennessee General Assembly have somehow seen fit to exempt nearly everything else but automobiles. Semi-trucks, bulldozers, backhoes, and nearly all other Diesel fuel burning heavy equipment is not subject to these same rules.

Jimmah Naifeh -D(Speaker of the House for the Tennessee General Assembly) probably decided that he stood to lose too much in campaign contributions if the same rules were applied to businesses. At least he can say that he did his part for the environment to all of his constituents in the state's Greens Party while they conveniently overlook the fact that businesses get a pass.

Dealing with the state, city, and county governments and the accompanying EPA agencies to just get building permits has caused one client of mine to go $100k (!) over budget on a new gymnasium he is building, and they haven't even poured the first slab of concrete yet!

That's an ugly surprise for such a small business, and puts them in a real pickle, so to speak. All of these so-called laws are simply designed to line the pockets of compliance watchdogs, environmental consulting firms and related businesses that have lobbyists paying huge campaign contributions to far-left candidates.

Do you think that Michael Moore, Barbra Streisand, Alec Baldwin, Al Gore, or any of these other envirotards actually take the bus, the metro, or ride a bicycle? Of course not.

No, we actually see them arrive at most of these events in, yep, you guessed it, little fleets of GMC Suburbans and Ford Expeditions, Excursions, or Hummers.

Others sit back in their stretch limousines drinking cocktails and snorting huge rails of cocaine while they wail and lament about the current state of "their" environment. What a joke.

Nancy Pelosi, the new speaker of the house, is now demanding that military transport planes be made available to fly her and her staff to/from wherever they wish to go. They'd better watch flying in and out San Francisco though. Mayor Newsome, along with the rest of the city, hates the US military, and the city's AAA batteries might accidentally shoot down Pelosi's plane, if it has USAF markings and insignia on it.

We pay "stormwater runoff" and "sewage" taxes on our monthly water bills that actually exceed what the water company charges for the water itself.

I'd like to see what types of "environmental initiatives" and "Kyoto compliance" actually goes on in places such as India, Russia, and China.

The left is only fooling itself with its hypocrisy.

One electric plant here is the 3th or 4th( I don't remember) worst polluter in the whole Europe. So, seems like everyone's in it.

My city still is (in Europe though). The authorities have tried to clean away the obvious (smog,soot etc). And now that everything looks ok, we should stop worrying? Even some μg of toxic substances can cause problems, and I doubt such a small number of them are making their way in the atmoshpere everyday.

There are indeed many countries that cause lots of pollution, but doesn't it seem that the media (meaning the American media itself in particular) endlessly complains that America is not doing enough, while it seems that other countries, such as the ones that I previously mentioned, get a pass.

France appears to have taken a lot of initiative in regards to nuclear power, since the majority of their electricity seems to be generated from nuclear plants now- and I've yet to hear of any serious accidents there.

That seems to be the Catch-22; people obviously need jobs, and most working class people would certainly like to have a good job with a good wage and benefits with a large manufacturer, but then we have the problems with pollution generated by the plants themselves.

In the 1960's and '70's (during the Vietnam era), companies were begging to find smart and reliable factory workers for $9-$12 per hour (and up), even back then. Chattanooga had a very strong economy, due to the manufacturing and transportation base, but as I said, the city was filthy.

There are a few factories here now, but most real jobs are either by professionals (doctors, lawyers, accountants) and other professions in the service, rather than manufacturing sector. It's very difficult to expect young people to stay here because the employment opportunities are more limited now than they were before. It is a paradox.

The air quality control index in many major cities can typically indicate what types of both elements and pollutants are in the air on any given day. Believe it or not, there was a story in the LA Times back in the eighties regarding the air quality index in Los Angeles county.

The report said that the element tetrahydrocannibol (also known as THC, the primary psychoactive ingredient found in marijuana) constituted a full 2% (!) of the total atmospheric content above the city during the sampling period and area. I saw this story on CNN, and my grandfather remarked, "I knew it! All of those stinking hippies out in California are on dope!"

You may want to check with the website for the Athens (Greece) city government for links to see if you can find a report for your own town. It might turn out to be a fairly interesting read.

It's using lignite. It can be seen from quite far, the smoke I mean.
There's mostly lignite and water used here. Oil is about 10% of what is used to make energy.

We have a lot of dams and rivers, but it rained for the first time today after 3 months, so I guess the latter's gonna be difficult if this continues.

I haven't heard anything about nuclear plants here, but there some are in Bulgaria, which aren't connected in any way with our energy system.

I read from a report that living with the Athenian air takes about 2 years of your estimated lifespan( 80-2=78 probably ). Mostly because of the cars. Something else I remember; we have about 120 days of smog, while according to the EU they should far less (around 80 ).

there you go... The new UN report about climate change was released yesterday. There's no doubt (and in my opinion there never was) anymore about men's influence on climate change.

First reactions? Our great German chancellor Merkel still protects the car industry from harder rules by the EU that would force the car producers to limit CO2 emission. George W. Bush says the US contingent on these emissions is neglictable (let me add: The USA produce ALONE almost a quart of the worldwide CO2 emission, tightly followed by China). And China? The medias even don't MENTION the new report.

WTF?????????????????? Mankind really doesn't seem to care... about the following generations, about nature, about the future of this planet. I don't blame anyone in particular. Everbody, every political leader, every country, sticks to his/her egoistic course. Unbelievable that people can be so short-sighted...

I don't see why you divide the world into black and white, right and left, good and evil. It's never, ever that simple.
