The God of Heavy Metal himself: DIO
Not exactly power metal, but inspired a lot of it.

Also not power, but close: Symphony X and Dream Theater

I also like Kamelot and Manowar, but Iced Earth for me, apart from some great songs, is quite boring.

OK, because I see that most of the people that posted know only the mainstream bands I'll suggest some must have US power metal albums:

Riot - Thundersteel
Jag Panzer - Ample Destruction
Savatage - Hall Of The Mountain King
Queensryche - EP
Fates Warning - No Exit
Heir Apparent - Graceful Inheritance
Lethal - Programmed
Vicious Rumors - Soldiers Of The Night
Helstar - A Distant Thunder
Fifth Angel - S/T
Armored Saint - Symbol Of Salvation
Crimson Glory - Transendence
Screamer - Target Earth
Hittman - S/T
Oliver Magnum - S/T
Sanctuary - Refuge Denied

As about new bands Kamelot (Eternity & Dominion era) Iced Earth (first 2 albums) Twisted Tower Dire, Cage, Steel Prophet, Defyance have made some great efforts of US power!

Oh yeah, for some reason I forgot Queensrÿche. For me Operation: Mindcrime is probably the greatest metal/rock album ever made.

Power...

Honestly, I woke up a bit sleepy-eyed, and was sure that this topic was about nuclear/wind energy as in industry and electricity... or about USA's involvement in political issues.
