What the Hell is beef?
I'm not being a smartass, but beef is for rich people. Us middle classers have to settle for chicken and tuna for our protein sources.
Besides Beef ain't too healthy anyway, so personally I don't care.
but, to answer your question I hope they use fresh beef because otherwise :yuk:
USA cattlemen grow enough beef to supply the Ameican palate¥ for beef, and enough left over to export lots.
As for safety, other than E.Coli outbreaks, usually the USDA does a good job of making sure beef is safe for the public to eat by inspecting very throughly.
However, during when my Ex&I were married he worked at a meat packing and processing plant for awhile, and put it this way

he never wanted to eat bologna or sausage ever again!

As far as I know Russia does not. And not only beef, but chicken as well. Mainly chicken, I`ve visited several press-conferences last year on the problem of low quality of American chicken.
As for me, I am neutral in this question, I just dislke meat at all) But what is obvious, is that my country doesn`t trade meat with US because of political reasons))

Chicken is healthier than beef, but there is the salmonella bacteria which is rampant in chickens. A person has to cook&handle chicken carefully in case the chicken is carying the bacteria. Thats why I am raising my own poultry(and soon, eggs) now. At least I'll know what I am getting in terms of freshness&quality.
actually..

Actually. I'm Korean, of course, South. Do you know about Korea? It is a country of 2002 World Cup. And if you have concern about world history, you may heard about the tragic division of the Korean peninsula.
Anyway. these days S.Korea is very noisy and confused. Becaused S.Korea and U.S government agreed with the resume of u.s. beef trading. The problem is that there is no limit about beef over 30 months. Generally, beef over 30 month is very dangerous because it has very more 'Prion Protein' which can induce 'mad cow disease'. MANY people is opposed to this resume. So there is huge demonstration.
Lights that you can see is a candle. Korean's demonstration is A.K.A 'candle demonstration' because they always hold the candle light that means 'Peace'
It was 10 June. There is 800,000 people just in Seoul(The Capital city of S.Korea) estimated by the demo sponser (50,000 estimated by police)
Actually, I'm a little shocked by BEG's reply. Of course S.Korea has 13rd economic scale in the world, but the number can not say everything. Anyway beef and pork is korean's popular foodstuffs, not just for the high class people's. (Korea is 2th~3rd import country of U.S. beef) So people is very very sensitive about the import of beef over 30 months that can induce 'serious' Mad Cow Disease.
Of course, The prion protein is shown under 30 month's. But generally it is very declined the risk of M.C.D if they keep import of over 30 month.
Now. This is my real question. And guess. This demo is countinued over 40 days. Also Now (Korea is 25 june, 10:20 PM right now) But There is too many rumor about M.C.D. Even some people says the M.C.D is infected by the AIR. :-< Of course it is true lie. But Now There is so many kind of rumor and wrong information about M.C.D and the risk of U.S.beef. Of course, the leftist press make some of rumor, and lefttist NGO make the rest of.
OK. This is too many writing and very serious topic for music community. But I really guess yours opinion: If your country import U.S beef with no limit, even it is under or over 30 months, do you disagree and makes demonstration? or just don't care?
Because now too many UNCERTAINTY information about M.C.D. are covered with S.Korea. And I can't make anything clear. I think anyone who knows about this problem well, that will help me to make clear about all things.

I'm glad you explained all of that. Yes, MCD is a concern and thats why many people in USA have stopped eating beef.
Yes, in USA beef is pretty expensive¬ many people eat steaks and roasts unless they are walthy. Alot eat hamburger meat, though, so it is important to worry about the health&safety of beef.
I did not know the stuff you discussed, so I'm going to have to read about it again.
Its something to think about.

in washington our natureal organic chicken is about 2 dollors for 6 legs so i eat that a lot. i will also buy the 8 dollor organic washington and oregon beef and have it with rice and vegies. with a lot of rice and veggies i can make some good use of of the meat that i buy. its also a lot of fun to expirement with mixes of sauces and maranades. meat is really just a matter of how its grown. Don't touch the mass produced stuff that ruins our planet and is cruel and unsanitary.

In the past, in the South USA anyway, one sure way a person could get well-off financially pretty quickly was to raise&sell a herd of cows. Even a yearling would fetch about $900 USD on the market. So, do the math. A grown cow could garner about $3,000, or more. However, things are not so lovely to cattle farmers any longer, due to weather disasters(grain shortages with resulting high cost), fluctuations in the market, and people are getting more health aware now.

A beef recall, millions of pounds!

Maybe infected with E. coli bacteria. Which can cause serious and even deadly illness especially in young children&the elderly. Many have died of this food borne illness which at its worse, causes kidney failure, total dehydration, and collapse.
One way to prevent getting sick is to cook hamburgers throughly, no medium rare, make sure there is no pink color in the middle of the pattie&that the juices run clear.
This is an important thing to know because now that its Summer many people grill food outdoors&many times grilled food is not 100% done on the inside when it is served and consumed.
While all beef is at risk, ground beef is easier infected because of the character of the ground meat itself makes it easier for the bacteria to grow and spread.
Also, E.Coli has shown up in veggies, such as lettuce. So wash all produce very well before preparing&eating.

Not being old or a child is another option. Seems the best options are steaks, sloppy Joes, stews, and jerky. But gosh, clean the stuff and cook it fully. It drives me crazy thinking about how many resources were wasted just because of a lack of quality control. There has to be better ways of distribution and keeping track for safety reasons. i really hate to think about just what the fast food resturants are doing to get their 99 cent burgers.

Just be clean, that is the greatest thing to be learned. Id like to see the stats and how much of this is media and pr fed vs. how much is an actual threat. Sometimes companies have to go through a lot of waste for the sake of pr because of media using bad reporting and turning things into a scare tactic. It would piss me off if the e- coli came from a concentrated bunch of meat that was traceable and miniscule yet 5 million pounds of meat gets recalled. Just to think of what could have been done with the resources if people were vegetarians and there was not this demand for meat.
