Since holidays are coming up I thought I'd post a link to a wide assortment of recipes for cakes.
Flour is going up in price, but still creating your own delicious cake can be fun.

I plan to try the Earthquake Cake soon. Lots of Chocolate!
While reading these recipes try not to drool all over the keyboard!

HUMMINGBIRD CAKE
HONEYBUN CAKE
Both of these are delicious, and beautiful. I have made these 2 in the past, as well as Red Velvet, and the Orange Dreamsicle. Being married to a guy with an incurable sweet tooth a gal better learn to bake!

There are some cakes that are "Southern" classics that most women here learn to bake anyway. Since its just me now I do not bake sweets except on holidays. My son was never a heavy sweets eater, just every once in a while. But, his fav Cake was Pineapple Upside Down Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream, or Cool Whip.

MISSISSIPPI MUD CAKE
Also, a Southern classic. My Grandmother taught me how to bake these decadent, chocolately dessert cakes. Not that hard to create, either. Great with coffee.

can you explain how this is made?

From Wikipedia:
Mämmi is made from water, rye flour and powdered rye malt, seasoned with dark molasses, salt and dried, powdered Seville orange peel. The mixture is then allowed to go through a slow, natural sweetening process before being baked in an oven until set. Preparation takes many hours, and after baking the mämmi is stored chilled for 3 to 4 days before being ready to eat. Sometimes mild fermentation can occur during preparation.
It doesn't taste much better than it looks.

I've heard about that stuff. It looks like someone took a crap in a bowl.

Is that a Finnish thing?

I'll take my Mississippi Mud any time over Mammi.

Are Pupusas sweet?

They resmble the Mexican Sopapilla, except sopapillas ar smaller.
Sopapillas are good. Like a fried, flaky dough. Then, dip them in honey or even chocolate syrup. In Home Economics class in college we did a Mexican themed meal once. My friend had to make the dessert&chose Sopapillas. (I made the Rice. How boring.)Anyway, are Pupusas similar to Sopapillas?

SOPAPILLAS
Yep, these are really yummy. Just dip them in honey, or sprinkle cinnamon, and powdered sugar on them. Fantastic!

Not really, well I tried sopapillas a long time ago and I don't remember exactly how they tasted

but I don't think they are that similar since you mentioned they can be dipped into honey or chocolate, you can't do that with a pupusa.
But if you have the chance try pupusas, I really recommend them, they are really good and they don't resemble crap in any way, well at least from my point of view

(I don't have a crap doctorate but I think some animals can "make" some similar stuff...)
Oh and pupusas are not sweet, they taste like... well they are made of beans, cheese and some other stuff whose english name I don't know

...I don't know, just try them, give another cultures a chance

Golden Bacardi Rum Cake
1 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
1 (18.5 ounce) box yellow cake mix with pudding in it
3 eggs
1/2 cup cold water
1/3 cup vegetable oil
1/2 cup Bacardi Dark Rum
1/4 pound butter
1/4 cup water
1 cup granulated sugar
1/2 cup Bacardi Dark Rum
Cake: Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Grease and flour 10-inch tube or 12-cup bundt pan. Sprinkle nuts over bottom of pan. Mix together cake mix, eggs, 1/2 cup water, oil, and 1/2 cup rum. Pour batter over nuts. Bake 1 hour. Cool. Invert on serving plate. Prick top. Spoon and brush glaze evenly over top and sides. Allow cake to absorb glaze. Repeat until glaze is used up. Glaze: Melt butter in medium sauce pan. Stir in 1/4 cup water and sugar. Boil 5 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat. Stir in 1/2 cup rum. Tips: Chop nuts really fine, the glaze goes through it easier. To prick top and sides, use something long that will go almost to the bottom of the cake. Remember to do the outside and inside at an angle so the glaze goes all the way in. Make extra glaze, keep warm in small crock pot (not boiling). People love it and want extra on their servings.

FIG CAKE

These cakes are delicious! Just chop fine a cup of fresh figs, and add to a plain bundt cake recipe. I know lots of people here in the forum are fig eaters. I have 2 trees and have been getting bumper crops every year for several years. A fig is really, technically an inside-out flower!

A delicious fruit!

PUMPKIN FRUITCAKE
I make a couple of these every year at Thanksgivig. I found the recipe about 1990 in the local newspaper. I will post it later as it is quite long. But, the recipe is not hard, just mix together&bake about 25 ingredients!

Meanwhile, a non-bake, non-fail very easy cake: ICEBOX FRUITCAKE
It should be called CANDY instead of cake!

This topic is very handy. I haven't done any cake, yet, but I'll see if I can do that Mississippi Mud Cake. That looks awesome. And besides the only thing I can make are pancakes.... They're ok, though.

LOL, knowing the mail system in Alabama&USA, they would not make it!

Seriously, its bad, a mess. I get my neighbors mail&vice versa many times. The postal service sucks.
Anyway, somebody would eat it on the way!

Or it would be a crumbly mess.
These recipes are easy. Anyone can fix them.

I'm not great at making cakes but I make some pretty good pies.
I make this really good apple pie (premade crust so its not a hassle).
You just peel and slice apples, add cinnamon and brown sugar, and microwave them for about ten minutes till they get droopy. Then you take the frozen premade crust, heat it in the oven for ten minutes, and then add the apple filling to it. You then add a top layer for the pie (basically flour, egg, butter, sugar, and some walnuts) and add it on top, then just bake for another ten minutes.
Its really simple and quite good

That does sound good!

I have lots of frozen apples, so I'll try making one(or two) one day! Maybe Thanksgiving, my Dad loves Apple Pies.
Not exactly like your recipe, A, but its Apple Pie!
