METALLICA Is 'Working On' 'Big Four' Tour
Post
by Ragehead91 » Wed Sep 16, 2009 2:49 pm
hris Varias of Metromix conducted an interview earlier this week with METALLICA bassist Robert Trujillo. The question-and-answer session follows below.
Metromix: There's a rumor going around now about the four classic thrash bands (METALLICA, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX) touring together. How would you feel about being part of that?
Trujillo: I think it's great. We've had a few different conversations on the subject. I'm friends with (SLAYER's) Kerry King and had dinner with him a few months back, and it came up there. I think (MEGADETH's) Dave Mustaine is amazing. I've never had a problem with him personally. I think it'd be great if METALLICA shared the stage with his band. METALLICA's still great friends with (ANTHRAX's) Scott Ian. There's a lot of history there. I think it'd be great for metal. I don't think all four bands have played together at the same time.
Metromix: So there's truth to the rumor?
Trujillo: There is, but nothing's concrete. It's not a sealed deal. We're working on it.
Metromix: How would egos come into play in terms of the order of bands on the bill?
Trujillo: Oh, there'd be a lot of egos. I think we'd be OK. It'd be an issue with the other three bands.
Metromix: How so? Would Dave Mustaine have an issue opening for METALLICA?
Trujillo: I don't think that would be an issue. I think it would be more an issue between MEGADETH and SLAYER.
Metromix: What's the story there?
Trujillo: I don't know if it would depend on the city, but I'm sure between those two bands, they would want to be up on the bill. I don't know. Who knows? My prediction is that maybe there would be something there. The only way we would do it is if we're headlining, and we would probably be the ones to put it together. I'm not saying that in a disrespectful way. All of these bands are amazing and super-cool.

I think a HOLY SHIT! is in order

Take Slayer and Megadeth out of there, and it would be pretty cool

Are you kidding me? THIS IS THE MOTHERFUCKING BIG 4 OF THRASH METAL! THIS IS LIKE CHRISTMAS AND EASTERN FALLING ON THE SAME DAY! For Thrash Metal Fans this is the equivalent of Elvis meets the Beatles! I mean the world could just explode right there!
Honestly, this tour would kick MAJOR ass! Maybe add Exodus and Testament also.

I'd be semi-interested, but I admit this is, or more would have been, a dream come through for any original thrash metal fan out there, should this have happened years and years earlier.

Now it would be time for Anthrax to rock those old and tired guys off and gain some interest compared to them. Except with no Belladonna?

Why does Trujullo have to be so adamant about Metallica Headlining? Would it hurt their poor egos if they weren't because I think any of those Four Bands could do a damn good job headlining if they had to. Why not give the bands the same amount of time and rotate the headliners on different dates? Or if it really came down to it, how about someone be the bigger man or men and let one of the bands headline and put their egos aside to make this happen?

I saw Live-video footage from Metallica and Megadeth and while they're not as young as wild as they were 20 years ago, they still can put on a good show.

I think they should roll the headliners regullary, but I'm afraid Slayer or Metallica wont get that well with Megadeth but if that was to happen, that would be just....
And if they need one more argument: imagine all the money they would get on such a tour!
That will make them go along very well I think, but fuck, I'd pay 200 euros to see that!

Ok keep Megadeth, but I never really got what's so great and special about Slayer. They bore me to death.

^ Seriously! If you haven't seen Slayer and you're fan of metal, you gotta see them up on stage at least once. The amount of energy they have for being like 50 years old or something is crazy! After seeing them at the unholy alliance tour, I was like "Slayer just showed everyone why they are the headliners"; they rock! I also thought Christ Illusion was pretty good and Lombardo is a phenomenal drummer

I personally think this idea is excellent, although not a big fan of Slayer (like
Babylon said, it's just too... dunno... very :headbang: :headbang: :headbang: taken to the extreme); but like
Ragehead said: "Without them, there would be no Big 4 Tour".
And about the ego thing................ COME ON PEOPLE!!! With all the money they would get, who cares about the headliner? I think they should put it aside and let the true lovers of metal (trash in this case) enjoy this miracle

:D:D!

Just kidding
Megadeth is my favorite of the big 4 but it would be pretty awesome to see all the bands in one night. But I hope Metallica concentrates on the good old thrash albums instead of the 90s stuff if this tour happens.

I think Lars and James know that it wouldn't be a good Idea to play Load, Reload and St. Anger stuff on a tour like that.

METALLICA's KIRK HAMMETT Says 'Big Four' Tour Won't Happen - Oct. 15, 2009
Shaffee and El Jefe of the WKLS Project 9-6-1 96.1 FM radio station conducted an interview with METALLICA guitarist Kirk Hammett prior to the band's October 4, 2009 concert at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. Watch the chat in two parts below.
When asked about the rumors that METALLICA was assembling a tour that would feature the "Big Four" of the 1980s underground thrash metal scene — itself, SLAYER, MEGADETH and ANTHRAX — Kirk replied, "That tour is not gonna happen. I've been hearing that, we've all been hearing that for awhile. I get asked [about] it regularly. And as far as a tour going on, it's not gonna happen. Conflicting schedules, conflicting personalities, [a lot of] conflicting things. It's a good idea, though. And personally, I can see the significance of playing a tour like that, but... it's not gonna happen."
Fuck. But it was too good to be true anyway...
