Triumph or Agony is an album that grows on you, but you kind of have to forget your preconceptions of what a Rhapsody (of Fire) album is meant to be and just go with it. I really started to appreciate it and what they were trying to do by listening to it while driving. Some really awesome material in there.

I haven't heard the latest one yet, but I'll get on it.

I disagree. I do agree the that they don't really come up with something new anymore. But for me they are still the storytellers they were in the beginning. And while they don't really do innovative, new stuff I do think they still become better at their style. Smile

Really looking forward to the new mini-amlbum! Very Happy
that line And while they don't really do innovative, new stuff means everything to me, I do like Rhapsody, my favorite album is Dawn of Victory, is a must that album!! in my opinion. but I think they just playing safe you know?? they dont risk too much and I believe they could do much more since they master orchestration and symphonic elements like not other band do

What was the innovation that they had? Unless I’m missing something, they simply combined well developed forms of music together without doing anything new theory wise or play any instrument in a new way. If they mixed bluegrass in the next cd would that would be just as innovative. If creating a 35 minute soundtrack is safe, ok, but is something they have not done before .

I don't really care if they're inovative or not. I like their music, their over-the-top, full-on-cheesy fantasy lyrics and image, the pompous orchestration, Fabio's semi-operatic singing and Lucca's guitar playing. I really hope that they don't pull a Sonata Arctica on us and go all progressive.

come on dude dont be so hard to this guys, I feel to this day there is not band like rhapsody , is like tolkien put together a band with bach and a bunch of metal heads, that is quite a combination!!

is ok to like it, but dont demand creativity from your favorite artists...wow...i mean.....that is not what pop is all about__??? my opinion

I didn't say that I don't demand creativity from them. All I was saying is that I hope that they don't go into the same direction as Sonata Arctica because, as mentioned in the Sonata topic, I don't like that direction at all.

I really don't have any problems with ToA or SOEL II.
I think they are in the top-5 of Rhapsody actually.

There are a few amazing songs on the new album:

On the way to Ainor and Danza di fueggo y giacchio... awesome songs!!!
Through the storms we've wandered
Many mountains we have climbed
But all the bad times are behind
The road is free - I'm coming home

I loved Frozen Tears of Angels. So I'm very curious what this new EP is giving us. I do like the title: The Cold Embrace of Fear ~ A Dark Romantic Symphony. It's really Rhapsody-ish!

What other Rhapsody stuff can it be compared to?

Well it's more symphonic than The Frozen Tears of Angels. But less symphonic than SoEL II. Musically is't between Power of The Dragonflame and SoEL II. It does have the spoken parts stuff though. But those parts are much better and less cheesy than before.

Their new mini-CD is a VAST improvement over Frozen Tears of Angels. Frozen Tears just sounded as amateurish as Legendary Tales. Most everyone that loved it seemed to love it SOLELY because it was heavier and faster. Nevermind the fact that it sounded like total shit.

But metal heads are fairly stupid people.

Well I'm not a 'metalhead' at all, but I really liked The Frozen Tears of Angels. Not only because it was heavier and faster. I just liked the overall sound of it.

You're right if you say it sounded more like their pre-Symphony of Enchanted Lands, Part II albums. But in my opinion the first four (or five if you count Rain of a Thousand Flames) albums are Rhapsody's best. :) This doesn't mean I don't like the newer albums, I love those too.

But I agree on what you say about the new EP, it's definately better than The Frozen Tears of Angels.

All I have to say is that this isn't something we couldn't expect from them...Mostly all of their songs sounds "the same to me" (of course, some ROF fan would say I'm lying) and this one isn't the exception. Sounds OK :)

It's incredibly cheesy, musically good, so Rhapsody. I like it better than the other album this year though.

Yes, it's cheesy. But indeed it's musically very good. You liked it more than FToA. Me too.

I love the new mini-CD, mostly because it feels a lot like a mini-version of SOEL2.

Oh, and by the way, SOEL2 is not only my favorite Rhapsody of Fire album...It is my favorite album of all-time. No CD even comes close, with exception to Elements Pt. 1.

I like this new Mini-CD. Great work especially Act III. I like this main riff and also the construction of this piece
