Discuss! :user:

Is this good? Since I do not live in Europe, I have no opinion about this man or what he might bring to the table.
I have found a couple articles criticizing him, but I will post those later. I rather hear first hand info from people who really know. ;)

Wonder what happened to Tony Blair? Man, he was the hot one for this post up until a couple months ago! ???
Did he cross hairs with the Illuminati, or something?

First things first.

HE DOES NOT RULE EUROPE.

His title is 'President of the European Council.'

NOT

President of the European Union.

Let's clear that up from RIGHT NOW.

Anyway, he is a low-key figure, which is exactly what the European Commission and European Council want.

They want a mouthpiece, a single point of reference, not some huge, policy making character.

Let it be known that the office of President of the European Council is NOT IN ANY WAY LIKE the office of President of the United States.

Tony Blair is deeply unpopular throughout Europe and especially in Britain, and has a rather tarnished reputation in any case.

You're thinking of the head of the Foreign Affairs committee, Baroness Ashton :D She's also had a very low profile, so was appointed for exactly the same reasons.

Well, why is it then that even the European press is calling him the new EU President? ??? Its just a title?

I know that each country in the EU has a say so in matters that come up, and a vote. This seems to be similar to the House&Senate system that the USA has(somewhat). I mean, this exists to keep a person from having absolute power(dictator).

Because journalists are retarded and sensationalist headlines grab attention and sales/advertising revenue. Many people are angry he was appointed and not directly elected, but since he doesn't really do all that much it shouldn't upset people so much.

Well preventing a dictatorship is the reason that in a functioning democracy that the government is split into executive, legislative and judiciary brances, i.e. separation of powers. Since all member states of the EU function in such a manner, it's logical that the EU itself will work in a similar way. So far, the executive and legislative bodies of the EU are still finding their way, they've made a difference to everyday life but not as much as the European Court of Justice.

Have things changed since the signing of the Lisbon Treaty? Nope.
