Argentine Men Marry in Latin America’s First Same-Sex Marria

Two Argentine men have wed in Latin America’s first same-sex marriage. Alex Freyre and Jose Maria di Bello were married in the southernmost state of Tierra del Fuego, where a pro-gay marriage governor welcomed the event. The couple had previously tried to marry in Buenos Aires, but their case became a contested legal battle.

Correction: Tierra del Fuego is a province, not a state. There are no states in Argentina.
I saw this on the newspapers a while ago. I'm glad same-sex marriages are becoming legal in Argentina. I think it is definitely a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, I just read that 60% of Argentines are opposed to same-sex marriages, while 35% are in favour. Not surprisingly, of those who are in favour, most are young people (a good indication that things are changing) and people with higher levels of formal education.
Apparently, there are now more than a hundred gay couples wanting to get married in Argentina, following the first marriage's success.
