Few months ago I said to myself "Better late than never" and bought myself a collection of Lovecraft stories, Library Of America one. I absolutely love it so far, I've gone through his short stories and moved to the bulk of his Chtulhu mythos. My favoite stories so far are The Rats In The Walls, Outsider, The Lurking Fear, The Music Of Erich Zahn, Call Of Chtulhu, The Case Of Charles Dexter Ward and The Colour Out Of Space. I'm reading The Dunwich Horror right now and it looks great too. I love his writing, the bleak and depressing atmosphere, overall lack of happy endings and his influence on the horror genre in 20th century is clear.

So, what are your favorite stories?

I am a huge fan of Lovecraft. My favorite stories are The Haunter of the Dark, The Shadow Over Innsmouth, Herbert West: Reanimator, and The Outsider

I thought Reanimator was pretty mediocre compared to his other works. It's basically an equivalent of a b-movie ...
The first two stories are in the compilation I bought, so I'll get to them.

Lovecraft is awesome. There's a reason that so many metal songs are written about his stuff :D

I read many of his short stories a year ago or so and I didn't like them at all.
I prefer Edgar Allan Poe, he's incredible!

Because it's dark and depressing
But indeed, almost every metal band has to write something about Cthulhu at some point :)

Meanwhile I finished A Dunwich Horror and liked it and finished A Whisperer In The Darkness which was simply amazing. I started to read At The Mountains Of Madness.
