So, as a player who's your favorite from these 4?
I'll take Matias. I also think he composes, not better than Tolkki, but he's superior than Jani and Elias.

They are all really fantastic. I love Matias, but haven't heard enough from him to really say he's the "best". Overall, my vote goes to Tolkki. Obvious choice, he's everyone's famous composer and he puts a lot of feeling into his music and playing. I think he can get #1 in this poll, and prove once and for all that he can win more than an eating contest. :rotflmao1:

I voted Jani, but it would be hard to organize my top 3. Tolkki, Liimitainen, and Matias are all AMAZING guitarists.
Elias is unremarkable.

As a guitarist, Matias is the best imo. TT and Jani follows him close, and I can't even understand why is Elias here.

So there are just 2 bands there for you...
I might do a best Excalion guitarrist poll then...

Out of them, Timo.
But my favorite has to be Roope Latvala. He's faster than Alexi Laiho, IMO.

I know I was really pulling for Jani to be Timo's replacement in Stratovarius, it would have been all kinds of awesome, but Matias has brought an amazing element to the band anyways.
Imagine though, If Polaris were
Dawn of Solace
Falling Star
King of Nothing
Blind
Winter Skies
Forever is Today
Stolen Waters
My Queen of Winter
Emancipation Suite Pt. I
Emancipation Suite Pt. II
When Mountains Fall

Tolkki, no doubt about that. You can say whatever you want about Tolkki's personal life or his relationship with the fans, but you can't deny he's one of the best composers of our era (at least not
you guys, who worship the band that found its sound much to his credit).
Now Mathias has a long road ahead of him. He's got exceptional talent and I'm sure he's the future for Stratovarius and Tolkki couldn't have had a better replacement, but I'll say he's my favourite guitar player when his contribution to the soundtrack of my life is as significant as Tolkki's.

No matter about my common dislike, the vote goes to Tolkki

Timo is the best composer in power metal history. Not a great guitarist technically, but I don't care about how good the guitarist's skills are as long as they write great music.

See, I chose Jani because I didn't have to ignore anything about him, ala Tolkki.
I thought "If I was putting together a power metal supergroup, who is the first guitarist I'd call", and the answer was Mr. Liimitainen.
