Check out "Balls to the Wall" and "Metal Heart" (Wolf Hoffmann quotes Beethoven's "Fur Elise" during the solo. And no, it's unlikely that Yngwie was amused by this.) over on YouTube.NeverendingAbyss wrote:Never heard of this band before.
It's like GammaRay and Metallica combined, at least.
Moar clips?
Besides Udo Dirkschneider's voice, I think you hit closer with the Metallica+Gamma Ray comparison.NeverendingAbyss wrote:Whoa they really sound like AC/DC.

Balls to the Wall and Metal Heart are probably their two biggest hits. Here are some other cool stuff if you're interested: Fast As A Shark (Allegedly the first speed metal song. Also, Helloween has a nice cover version of this), Princess of the Dawn, TV War, Monsterman, Guardian of the Night, Objection Overruled / Objection Overruled -album (If you're into more "heavy" and modern sounding stuff).
I would rather call Highway Star proto-speed metal than "pure" speed metal, but yeah, why not. They're both great songs after all.Rebel wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KgZSnAkQc4c
got you beat by a decade.
I was about 12 or 13 years old when Motorhead released "Ace of Spades", and I'd always considered them to be the godfathers of speed/thrash metal.Mormegil wrote:I would rather call Highway Star proto-speed metal than "pure" speed metal, but yeah, why not. I have an unhealthy addiction to Deep Purple. By the sounds of Tolkki's writing in Stratovarius, so did he.miditek wrote:I was about 12 or 13 years old when Motorhead released "Ace of Spades", and I'd always considered them to be the godfathers of speed/thrash metal.Mormegil wrote:I would rather call Highway Star proto-speed metal than "pure" speed metal, but yeah, why not. NOOO! They don't! If they sounded like AC/DC I wouldnät enjoy the album... Maybe Pandemic and locked an loaded has an AC/DC flow... But on the other hand I hate these two songsNeverendingAbyss wrote:Whoa they really sound like AC/DC.
