Therion

Post by Shurik » Fri May 21, 2010 3:47 pm

During last half a year or so I'm listening to them a lot. Strangely enough, I never gave a serious listen but one day I sat and listened to their Live Gothic album and was simply blown away after the first couple of minutes of the first song. Since then I've listened to all their albums, including the death metal ones from the beginning.

For me, this is the best symphonic metal band right now. Nothing even comes close. Favorite album - The Secret Of The Runes, Lemuria/Sirius B and Gothic Kaballah come very close. In fact, I consider Deggial to be the only somewhat weak album, but it also has some great songs - a title song and Seven Secrets Of The Sphynx, for example.

So, what do you think of them?

Therion is awesome, but I'm surprised, you didn't list my favourite album - Vovin.

A great band that is getting better all the time. I think their latets "Gothic Kaballah" is the best one! They will have a totally new line up on the next album with Thomas Vikström on voclas.

I didn't like him on Wacken 2007 clips that can be seen on Youtube. Maybe it's because those songs were new to him, but he sounded pretty bad on those clips ... I haven't heard him in anything else, so maybe it's just this specific concert that went bad.
IMO they should stick with Snowy Shaw as a main vocalist. This guy has a great voice and he's a great performer ...

Maybe get Mats Leven back? You simply can't go wrong with this guy.

Didn't he leave Therion in the middle of tour or something like that?

According to Wikipedia, he left them in 2007 after some summer festivals but before Wacken.
He's indeed a great singer ...

shurik: wikström is not to be underestimated. he's a singer of the classical style and mats leven is a rocksinger. The songs where wikstrom doesnt sound that great on are songs made for/by mats leven and his voice. Still i think thomas did great on blood of kingu on that wackengig. I think we will hear great things from thomas on the new album.

One of the best! But I like Thomas Vikström too. But he doesn's have the same vocalrange

Good band, to me, they are simply epic.
I've got two of their albums:

Theli and Vovin

Clavicula Nox is simply amazing. (Not because it says "nox".:P)
"Insanity: A Perfect Rational Adjustment To An Insane World"
