JORN LANDE To Honor RONNIE JAMES DIO's Musical Legacy With 'Dio' Album - May 21, 2010

Powerhouse Norwegian vocalist Jorn Lande (MASTERPLAN, YNGWIE MALMSTEEN, ARK, THE SNAKES) will honor the musical legacy of Ronnie James Dio with his new album, aptly entitled "Dio", to be released on July 2 in Europe and July 27 in the U.S. via Frontiers Records.
Handpicking some lesser known tunes of the Dio era, along with some of the true classics, Jorn offers a fine collection of songs that present the music of the man and the artist, with a unique twist.
Commented Lande: "Throughout the years I have had the privilege of both meeting and working with many of the musicians that have inspired me on my musical journey. Ronnie James Dio has inspired me through decades, and this man's influence continues to add colour to my creative spirit. Ever since the first time I heard his royal roar back in the '70s, I have been fascinated by this extremely talented man's creative force and dedication to music. His career has been going on for so long and includes so many great songs that it was a challenge to decide which songs and what era to focus on. I ended up focusing on the Dio era."
"Dio" will also include an original song for which a video, shot by Thomas Tjader (PRETTY MAIDS, IN FLAMES), was produced. Jorn says, "I wrote 'Song for Ronnie James' as a tribute and a personal thanks to the man who has been my mentor for more than 35 years. This great man has affected my life and career in such a way that without his presence, I would not have become the artist I am today."
The "Song for Ronnie James" video can be viewed below.
"Dio" was mixed by Tommy Hansen at Jailhouse Studios and it features the following tracks:
01. Song For Ronnie James
02. Invisible
03. Shame on the Night
04. Push
05. Stand Up And Shout
06. Don't Talk to Strangers
07. Lord Of The Last Day
08. Night People
09. Sacred Heart
10. Sunset Superman
11. Lonely Is The Word / Letters From Earth (2010 version)
12. Kill The King
13. Straight Through The Heart (live)
14. Song For Ronnie James (video)
JORN is:

Jgor Gianola: Guitar
Tor Erik Myhre: Guitar
Nic Angileri: Bass

I know it looks like he does it to cash in on Dios Death, but he has been working on this album for quite a bit I think. A few months back his drummer said that he was in the studio recording so I think it is just bad timing.

I'm not sure if I care for the bird on the cover. What is he so mad about?

of course, it is a shame though that there are people out there that either say things like that without knowing the context behind it or are so cynical that they don't believe the context behind it.

Also, it isn't really his desicion when to release the news about the release date. Frontiers decide on that and they could've done it earlier because it looks like the thing has been finished for a while now. Also, I really doubt that Jorn is really that greedy, calculating and coldhearted to release an album just to cash in one someones death, let alone Dios death. He really loves the guy. Listen to his music. Listen to his voice.

Well even if it's a cash I'll not buy anyway, I never liked tribute albuns!

As for the cash part, I don't think this will even sell enough to be considered a ROI opportunity. Of course we have some in the metal community where if a cd sells 10 copies and loses money it still is somehow considered selling out and cash in.
for me tribute albums can be great just like any other albums, a well done song is a well done song and I view songs independent of each other rather than some comparison thing like it seems many love to do.

Hell, there are still morons out that who consider it to be a cash out if you just sign with a record company.

Not buying it because of the tracklisting. For me this isn't what Dio represented at his best, other than

But what 2010 version?
I understand, though, that this includes many songs (supposedly) written by Dio himself.
I also do hope that there aren't any morons stating "if you're not buying it, you're insulting Dio's memory". Still, I don't think this is a cash-in only. It is, partly, as much as any album is a cash-in, but much greater value lies somewhere else at this time.

The tracklisting isn't supposed to be some kind of best-of Dio. It is made up of the songs that Jorn liked best I guess.
And about "Lonely is The World/Letters From Earth", he already recorded a version of this in 07 for his "Unlocking the Past" Cover album and also as a bonus track for the "Live in America" album.

Also, if this really was supposed to be a cash-in, don't you think he would've chosen all of Dio's big hits like Holy Diver, Rainbow In The Dark, Hungry For Heaven, Last In Line, We Rock, King Of Rock'n'Roll and so on?

Yeah, he would have. But this is due respect more than due money as I said already.

That’s a reverse on what I am experienced with. To me, tributes are released to honor people that we hold in high regard, not disrespect them.

It's gonna be interesting to hear "Sacred heart" with Jorn. That is one of my favourite DIO songs.
