this will be a poll, and I would really like to hear Jens' opinion because he's listened both! Ok, and because this is strato forum, we'll add deep purple and bach to the list too.

I know there are plenty of other artists out there, many of whom may be superior to the list I composed. I really would like to hear Jens comment since he's listened to all these guys. (or if he has another musician in mind too)

Well, it depends on what I want to do, sure, I respect the hell out of Bach and Mozart, but I listened to a lot more Deep Purple.
For my own purposes, understanding Deep Purple is a lot more essential than understanding Bach/Mozart

i can understand someone prefering deep purple, but calling them more artistic, i don't follow. id definitly rather have the abilities mozart or bach had than anyone of deep purple

This thread started as a bit of fun (I guess), comparing Cannibal Corpse and Mozart makes absolutely no fucking sense. Quite snobbish of you to say one is more 'artistic' than the other.

depends on how we define art, lets just say im putting skill and talant as part of what makes a person artistic but that falls apart for people that define it otherwise. in other contexts anything can be more artistic than anything for a person since that object or concept is only what that person creates from it from that persons reaction.

we could make the poll a list of questions and then have people put which they would listen to for a certain funtion such as to feel a certain emotion or during a certain event

i.e. Mozart is not more 'artistic' than Cannibal Corpse.

He is in many contexts and is not in many contexts, therefore its right to say he is and it's right to say he is not. We can have fun with language usage or we can use set terms and contexts. Mozart certainly is more skilled and talented than cannibal corpse and accomplished more with the tools he had and was more of an inventive and revolutionary groundbreaking figure for multiple styles of music. Mozart covered a larger array of emotions with his work and his songs can be used for a greater verity of purposes so functionally I would say Mozart is the more functional artist. Mozart is of greater critical acclaim in the styles and cultures that he worked with than the acclaim that cannibal corpse has with the styles and cultures that they have worked with.

Cannibal Corpse have more votes, in the context of this forum they are more 'artistic'.
