creating a band

Here musicians can talk to each other about making music etc. Of course if you are not a musician you are still welcomed to this board, but the topics should somehow be about making music.

creating a band

Post by Rebel » Fri Sep 28, 2007 12:29 pm

Ok, so me and a friend of mine decided we should create a band for our highschool's battle of the bands. He has had a guitar for a few months now and I have some vocal talent. I'm looking into buying a bass, and we recruiting an experienced guitarist, so we need a drummer.
But for the battle of the bands, I want to cover Stratovarius. I've been playing around with the "Glory of the World" tab to make it playable, (vut the keyboards, split the guitar duties and added a few to the rythm portion, and re-wrote the bass line completely).
Are there any strato songs people would recommend to cover to try and win a highschool battle of the bands?

Um. Strato songs generally need you to be very tight with each other and I'd avise you don't attempt any of them until you've been playing together for quite a while.

I'd say something simple like Eagleheart or Hunting High & Low. Maybe Kiss of Judas would be doable as well.

I'd steer clear of Glory of the World.

Looking at the tab I've messed around with, I've listened enough to nail the vocals while playing bass.
And the guitar duties are split in half.
I guess we won't know until our first practice.

It's always pretty easy to play songs on your own.

Playing them all together is where the difficulties lie.

I wonder what Timo Tolkki thinks
Completely Amateur bassist (playing a re-written bass)
2 moderatly experienced guitarists
and 1 drummer who I don't know about, but I assume he has moderate experience
no keyboards
Glory of the World
about a year to practice it.

Actually it is probably Jens who should "think", cuz he wrote the song.

However, It's not gonna happen. Even if you could get the song to sound good, which is very unlikely, there's pretty much no point of playing it without the cool keyboard intro
