Worthwhile bass lines to learn by Strato

Here musicians can talk to each other about making music etc. Of course if you are not a musician you are still welcomed to this board, but the topics should somehow be about making music.

Worthwhile bass lines to learn by Strato

Post by Rebel » Sat Dec 22, 2007 7:31 pm

From my extensive experience listening to Stratovarius (Heard everything, believe me, EVERYTHING). I haven't really been blown away by the bass lines yet, I'm wondering if I'm missing something, because I'm putting together my list of songs to learn on Bass, and I have my 60 for RHCP (plan on learning all these over the course of next year), and I'm looking to maybe put some Strato on there.

From the albums there really isn't much to look at. I didn't have the luck to ever see Jari play, but many can assure that he did (and still can do) incredible things on stage.
IMHO, all the instrumental songs (-fortress,sphere,varius and Holy Light) are worthwhile.

With so many complex things going on, the basslines are simple to stop things getting over the top.

However, all the instrumentals are very worth looking at, and Lord Of The Wasteland is a challenging and fun song to play, definately worth trying. Speed of Light too.

Jari would do some pretty insane improvisations live, which were awsome. Lauri is more reserved with such things, but I think is a bit more of a solid player.

Both are totally incredible however.

DAMNIT! I can't find the bass line for "Soul of a Vagabond" anywhere, it's all guitar tabs and ONE guitar pro tab hosted by like 200 websites than only contains the intro.

Does someone know the tab for the bass line in the verse of "Soul of a Vagabond"?

There used to be a really good one of a really wild live intro to Kiss of Judas, but I can't seem to find it on YouTube anymore :(

Isn't that Lauri Porra?
I think the clip we're talking about was filmed in Tavastia around 1998...

You're right both times :D

There's also the raumanmeri show where you can hear the bass clearly.

I'm still not seeing why Stratovarius couldn't include the bass more often if Jari really was all that talented, I mean look at Liquid Tension Expirament (Paradigm Shift in particular) Rediculous talent on all the instruments, but an effective bass.
