The great census of young jazz band members

Does anyone play in a jazz band? I do, the bass. Even double-bass (that's the english word for that large accoustic instrument which is in the viola family, I think, correct me if I'm wrong), if I'm provided with one.
The other members:
- Drums (our drummer from an other rock-metal band we play together in)
- Alto saxophone
- Trumpet
- Trombone (optional... the guy isn't a permanent member because he's on a university in an other town)
- Keyboards (with Hammond-organ settings or plain piano; our keyboard-player is in fact a woman)
So, that's our band. We only play our own compositions, what we produce during long jam sessions. It's light jazz, I mean, even "normal" people can listen to it.
I would just like to know, if such phenomena exist in other countries, and mainly under the age group of ours (I'm 17 and the oldest member is 21) because there isn't much to hear about that.
