Keyboard plugins?

Here musicians can talk to each other about making music etc. Of course if you are not a musician you are still welcomed to this board, but the topics should somehow be about making music.

Keyboard plugins?

Post by dupinguez » Fri May 01, 2009 11:07 am

Hey!

I wanted to ask, since some of you work on keyboards/audio stuffs, if you knew some computer software that can provide good lead keyboard sounds to work with my music production software (Cubase) or just as Stand-Alone.

I have already tried FM8, Absynth, Vapor, Elektrik Piano... but none of them has satisfied me yet...

It's all about what sound you want and how much effort you want to put in to craft it. Might as well list some that I use though (and what I use them for)

Vanguard for my leads (free)
Battery for drum backing (199 Euros or so, I think)
Purity for pianos/strings (something like 70 euros)
Kore for anything else (free, but soundpacks cost 60 euros per pack)

People will tell you great things about VST's like Absynth and Atmosphere but the truth is, they're damn costly and not all that useful.

Ok thanks! I will try the few names you've given me, and then if I have trouble using it, we discuss it here if you don't mind!

Not a problem. It's always fun to talk shop with someone about a hobby.

Cakewalk Sonar? It so easier than Cubase. I use this, I like it.

It's cheaper than Cubase as well, but nowhere near as powerful. Much love for Steinberg inventing the VST format but I'm not a fan of Cubase. FL as a host, Ableton for tweaking. Now, if Reason supported VST's, I'd be set up nicely but Propellerheads are a bit stubborn on that.

I don't use VST, because I don't like so much. Why so good VST? What is your opinion? (I ask without bad intention. Really interests :) ) It depends on by whereof you would like to use it. I like Adobe Audition yet. What do you think about?

The primary reason I use VST's is very simple: Space. I have very limited room in my home to set up musical instruments. As for what I use, it's listed a few posts up.

Ok, thanks. I see it already. Sorry, I was very sleepy yesterday :D

Can I ask...? With what kind of musics do you work?

For the most part, Ambient/electronic. I lack the speed and fluid technique to really pull off Metal stuff. Also, being a gamer, I like to play various videogame pieces.

I'm a huge fan of Jarre, Kraftwerk, Vangelis and Jan Hammer and as such, they are a huge influence on what I like.
