anyone know how to setup the Yamaha DX7 to use as a midi controller? ideally with reason

Welll..just connect it to your Midi Interface and then you can select form reason the midi Source, viewed as the name of your midi interface and control with the Dx!

I did that, the problem is that I can not set the CS1 CS2 and the number buttons.

maybe the yamaha dx7s is not configured and i can`t configure ....maybe the reason is not the best option to play i dont know please help me.

well...you must at least try to do a midi Learn in Reason..ever tried?? maybe with a right click on the parameter you want to control and then press the button on the Dx7..

i already try that, whit the dx7s i can play whit reason but y cant asign the controllers and the numeric i thik it is configuration problem of yamaha dx7s or maybe reason is not compatible whit yamaha dx7 i dont know...maybe i have to play whit another softwares...what do you think???

When you press a button on the dx7 can you see a midi message arrived in reason? should be on the display lead on the top if i do remember well! it should work certainly btw =D

yes, the midi message is transmited to reason...but i can`t asign the controllers...i thik is a configuration problem of th yamaha..but i cant make it.

"CS1 / CS2" implies it's one of the newer (DX7s or II) types. You can set the controller numbers but it's not completely obvious.

This stuff should be under the "MIDI1" settings (edit, "31") ..

yep,i try to set the midi settings but I do not see answers, well i will try more...thanks for your answer...maybe i am setting the dx7s wrong...if you have any information please tell me...im starting to know the dx synth...i love it xD

nonono, i don`t like the midi controlers, i love my yamaha...the dx is an amazing synth i love the sounds and the f.... FM synth, i made any patches, also the dx is an exellent controller.

I agree that DX7 is a great controller. Well mainly because of the preset buttons and good keybed. But otherwise it's naturally grown a bit old I think the best thing about it is how sturdy it is.

I am by the way sure that your problem has nothing to do with the synth. You don't have to reconfigure it for use as a midi controller. If you receive a midi signal to Reason then everything is alright. Then you have to reroute the signal to some virtual instrument with the sounds for example. Or just record a midi clip
