Are there any singers around there?

Here musicians can talk to each other about making music etc. Of course if you are not a musician you are still welcomed to this board, but the topics should somehow be about making music.

Are there any singers around there?

Post by Arkash » Fri Jul 24, 2009 11:40 am

I personally dont play any instruments although I'm planning to get into bass guitar but I'm a singer. I mainly do harsh vocals, Petri Lindroos, Jari Maenpaa style but also louder ones like Marc Janse, Johan Hegg...

And I also try clean vocals, not like Timo, Roy Khan, Hansi Kurch or Fabio Leone, not those awesome vocals (I just quoted the best singers ever!), but clean vocals a little bit traficated with the throat, something a little bit like a whisper, a groan, that way, I can perform both grunting and clean vocals, cause the grunting doesnt affect my way of clean singing!

And for all the singers out there, lets talk a little bit about you! ;)

hiro is another.

They will post soon I imagine.

Well, singing in general, how long have you been all practiced, how did you learn, what kind of singing, what kind of bands, who writes the lyrics...?

All that stuff! :)

I am a bass player, first, last and always, but I do backing vocals, mostly of the caught-my-hand-in-a-woodchipper variety. It helps to bring the sound out from the diaphraghm.

I'm planning to get into bass, too, I really love that instrument and that will complete my singing I think, but I'm 19, afraid it's a bit too late!

Bullshit. Tom Morello started playing guitar at 21, and he's awsome.

Since this thread is about singing, I'm going to bring the topic back around.

I've started singing in elementary school in choirs and such. I have been singing power metal for about 12 years now. I remember my first recordings! They were bad. My range was not good.

I practiced with metal method jim gillette tape, (Good stuff) and have since taken various lessons.

I now have 4 octave range and can sing pretty much any power metal songs. Its really not too hard to do anymore. Writing good songs is the hardest part!

Well, the writing is my favourite part, but wow, you must be a great singer with all that school! I personnaly never attempt to any singing lessons, but well, you know, I dont really need them for harsh vocals! But I'm practising a lot of clean by myself, and for the moment, my harsh vocals practicing has not destroyed my voice completely yet, and I know that, with a good voice education, you could be able to sing the both ways, just like Fernando Ribeiro does (Moonspell).

I never got into harsh vocals personally, I've always been a bigger fan of the cleaner vocals, nothing against it, harsh vocals were just never my thing.

I've sung in a few choirs as a kid and mainly sang in the shower, I didn't actually start intensely training my voice until last year, I'm trying to go for that clear type of vocal, my voice is sounding good these days, I think I'm overcoming my barrier and I'm starting to sound more fluid.

As far as Vocal influences I've always admired guys like Bruce Dickinson,Rob Halford,Timo Kotipelto,Tony Kakko,Blaze Bayley,Ian Gillian,Fabio Lione,Andi Deris, Tony Martin and a whole slew of others, I'd continue on but the list would be way too long.

What, did you guys look up ear sex or something? I myself was thinking about the creed song since i think hiro23 said his voice was a baritone and stapp is as well. There is the alternative version of with legs wide open and the one no one has done with ass wide open but I really don’t think those apply here and they really are not my thing.
