It's really sad to see these videos now.
I wonder... what were they thinking while playing?, I suppose it was hard, really hard because it seems they knew all was over (they knew it since Wacken some weeks before this gig).

Actually according to Tolkki only he knew that he wanted to end Stratovarius. I one of the Interviews he said that ke keept it a secret until the spring of last year.

It's sad that we won't be seeing this lineup anymore however we will continue to get great music from both parties.

maybe somewhere in the future there will be a reunion, similiar to what happened with maiden where we'll see both Matias and Tolkki performing on the same stage.

but that's most likely wishful thinking on my part, as for the current situation I can't complain, I've got two great bands to listen to so I think that's just great.

Neither me nor anyone else actually had any idea about TT's plans. He signed that fateful Frontiers agreement about a week later.

He gave no indication whatsoever. I remember going to Burger King with him the day of the gig and the usual banter the next day on the way to the airport. There just was nothing different about this gig than any of the other hundreds of gigs. I don't know if that makes you happier or sadder ...

I remember I was thinking "ow, my head really hurts" and "fuck, these monitors REALLY suck."

I disconnected the monitors after half of the first song and played the rest of the gig "blind" (i.e., pressing keys and program change buttons blindly -- I could not hear a note of what I was playing). I remember the bass was loud on stage ..

Very cool Raziel! Thanks for posting. Just a few days ago, I watched Tolkki's video interview where he talks about this show and there was a bit of video of them performing the Elvis cover and I thought it sounded amazing. I was hoping to find some more footage from this night and you had just what I was looking for.

After watching these, I'm thinking back to Tolkki's comments and for the life of me I can't see where he thought the band had "lost it's soul" because I think it sounds great. Granted, I wasn't there at the show but after hearing TT talk about it, I thought the footage was going to reveal a band that was a complete wreck, completely out of sync with each other and lacking any kind of enthusiasm. It appears that the band is in fine form and it sounds like it was a good show even if Jens's monitors sucked.

I'm sorry I missed seeing this era of the band because they made some great music and I admire Tolkki as a guitar player and songwritter.

But with that said, I am stoked to see how this new era for the band unfolds. I just bought my ticket to the New York show and am very much looking forward to seeing these guys live for the first time.

Now I just have to book a flight across the country...

I'm happy to know the topic is useful to you.

The same happens to me. I can't see a lot of things Tolkki says about the "bad environment". But you know, there are things that we can't see/feel because we were not members of the band. Or maybe because that things were just in some minds, but not in other ones.

I wasn't in that show, I remember I was at the beach with my girlfriend trying to be there but we had to trip to Florence and it was impossible. Anyway some friends of me from Madrid, told me the show was amazing and the best was: free tickets. The show was at Alcorcón (a city right next to Madrid) and the city was celebrating his Local festivity, so free tickets. Amazing.
