Tolkki vs. Romeo

Here musicians can talk to each other about making music etc. Of course if you are not a musician you are still welcomed to this board, but the topics should somehow be about making music.

Not again....

This discussion has been done many times (albeit on the Tolkki forum IIRC).

They are both very good-but, I still have to say Tolkki does it for me! :)

But, BTW-whats this I hear from alot of folks that Symphony X almost stole the show from Stratovarius?   :~(

Yes, you have heard right. I have never said that (And I never say it. Strato was better!), but many else have said that Symphony X was fantastic, but Stratovarius was totally.. something.

Dont believe what you hear! ;)

Romeo is tecnically superrior... and got great emotion in too... but I don´t think this question is aswerable, since they are very different with their style...

I agree that this question is pointless...
Both of these guys have their own style, both are great at their talent, and both have infinite number of admirers.
To say one is better than the other is pointless because it so depends on individual opinion.

Tolkki & Romeo look a bit same, tho Tolkki way taller! :D
Both great guitarists, and they play different type of music.

As I see it, Romeo uses alot of different techniques, like legato, sweep picking, tapping, string-skipping and can combine these in many ways. If Hanne means Romeo is more technical in this way, it's true.

And Tolkki doesn't use tapping etc? :eyes

Yes, but legato, string-skipping, arpeggios? Very rarely I think

But he can do those too, because every shredder can, or at least should. But how good...? :)

Yes, how good? From what I've seen and heard from Romeo, the way he can combine different techniques in a insane but tasteful way and really being capable of playing the stuff is truly amazing, and yes, I'm prette sure Tolkki can play many different techniques as well, but how good? What is he capable of? Since I haven't heard it, I really don't know, and since this isn't Tolkki-style I'm not going to find out. So....Romeo is superior, technically, to me ;) :)

I remember seeing Tolkki playing pure shred in TV (Jyrki) when there was a program series of finnish guitar "legends" and there he played quite insane stuff, his basic technique is good, just the style is weird ;)

I guess he's just not too interested of "showing off" and having stress about it nowadays, relaxed way of playing his own stuff. Guitarplaying on "sportsmen level", technically fucking hard requires practise every day, it's not like when you learn it once you can do it for the rest of your life, constant work is needed. Timo has a life, he's not a guitar nerd. And that's a good thing IMO :)

Romeo has a life too, and you know it, coz you've heard The Odyssey =P Talk about symphonic arrangements!!!

Oh, and about showing off... Then why did Tolkki stress out how hard it was to play Stratofortress? To tell people that his abilities are weakening? ;) =P
