smashing guitars on stage

Here musicians can talk to each other about making music etc. Of course if you are not a musician you are still welcomed to this board, but the topics should somehow be about making music.

1. Get damn expensive customs from Fender, Ibanez or other expensive instrument maker
2. choose the most expensive of those to be first, and set it on fire it during the gig
3. take the secondary (a bit less expensive) and smash it against the floor of the stage or one of the PA speakers
4. keep doing this 'till U'r out of those expensive guitars in the end of the gig
5. and now, congratulate yourself, you surely are a world-famous on-stage guitar hero :D just like Jimi Hendrix ;)

the way I play the bass guitar is a real smashing itself !

2 microphones on 3 are almost dead, my volume level is dead, my jack plug-in is dead, the wood is severely damaged. I think smashing my bass guitar on stage would be the way to set it free from all these dameged... poor instrument, suffering so much ;)

Try the Manowar way, just rip the strings off from the neck of the bass... looks cool, but a backup instrument should be a good thing to have before doing so... ;)

I personally think that is silly, juvenile behavior...
Alot of big name bands do it--I guess maybe they can afford it! LOL!

I am glad Strato has not stooped to such stupidity and I hope they never will...

Well... they did smash a drum kit at the end of the close-up gig of some tour... ;) you can see a short cut of it in Infinite visions if I remember correctly...

Oh, yeah at the end of the Greece tour!
But, that was just one time...
Anyway, I don't think TT would smash his guitars like that, they are his prized possessions. Plus, he is smarter, and more dignified than that type behavior...

No, he don´t smash them, he gives them to fans (at least one of them...) ;)

A VERY lucky fan, at that!
If I won TT's guitar I would wrap it in plastic, hang it on the wall for everyone to see, and never touch it! (maybe I would worship it!)(J/K)
But, it would be a prized possession!

last week i saw malmsteen in concert.

he didnt crash a guitar but he often turned it 360° around his body....
i would never do that with my guitar....just imagine doing that in a show, and your guitar reaches the ground with the head.

throwing the guitar in the air is ok, cuase its not that dangerous.
btw someone saw the show where novoselic (nirvana's bassist) throw the bass in the air, and the bass smashed his head???
hehehe

Tolkki once did smash his guitar, but that's different. I dont't remember if it was in Milan's Gods Of Metal- festival or somewhere else, but it went like this: Stratovarius was the last band to play on that evening, and the band before them played longer than scheduled. So Stratovarius's set delayed. And halfway during the last song, the show organizer shut the power, and Tolkki instantly smashed his guitar to the floor, and the crowd booed to the organizer.

you should try doing it, the first hits in your waist are painfull, no doubt about it, but when you once reach the glorious 360, then you feel soooo Malmsteen :D

I'd never ever ever smash up my bass. It's older than me and has played in multiple bands, I'd never destroy an antique! :D I would set fire to a wooden harmonica though. They're worthless anyway ;)

I thought it went like this...

Pantera's manager got pissed off because Stratovarius was playing too long(they wasn't but Pantera should have been already started their gig) so he, this manager, shut down the power and Tolkki smashed his quitar. :(

But I can't be sure.

I'd be pissed too if they cut my power halfway through a song. But I wouldn't have smashed my keyboard; I'd have smashed the operator who cut my power.
