Ritual slaughter
Fill up the chalice
With the essence of your life
Liquid strengths
Trapped in your veins
I crave your blood
You must die!

"Key To the Universe" and "Hymn To Life" are fave ones.
I also like "Are You The One" and "It's Chrismas Morning" very much.
It seems that Timo and I we have some similarities.

So, you got it!
You like it?
I like,"Are You the One?"
"Divine" "Chrismas Morning" "Hymn to Life"

"Father" was depressing.

The album is different, but very likeable.

"Are You The One" is one of my favourite songs of all time. But "Father" was probably the best in pure art categories. The most emotional song I've ever heard, up there along with Pink Floyd's, or rather Roger Waters's, "When The Tigers Broke Free", which is also a tale of a father's death, though so very different. Both songs strike a chord in me every time I hear them. Hymn To Life is definitely one of the best rock albums of all time.

How did you like Charlie Chaplain's speech from "The Great Dictator" at the end?
I think that was supposed to be one of TTs fav movies...

I don't have it personally, but it is posted at Tolkki's Forum right now!

I forgot to mention that Hymn To Life does have one very basic great thing about it: Timo Tolkki, Sharon Den Adel and Michael Kiske on one album :D

My favourites are "Now I Understand",Are You the One" and "Fresh Blue Waters".

I've talked face to face with Timo about the feedback he got from the album(very much hatemail!)and he agreed to my view that maybe the album is hated so much because it's nothing like people would expect Timo to write. Anyway,I think it's a heavy album, not musically but contently and I really hope Timo now feels better after writing the whole thing.

I think Timo did a good job with this album. It's very different from Strato and has nothing of heavy metal, but I can't understand why so many people dislike it that much because it has, in my opinion, great songs on it. If an album isn't metal, that doesn't mean it's bad. It's stupid to think so. >=(

My favorite song is "now I understand" but I like almost all songs on this album. Sadly I only found it at the Fnac and it was VERY expensive :(

I do not think the criticizers were pissed off so much about the music as they were the content and frankness with which Timo
sang about. This album, after all, was about problems in his personal life he was trying to resolve/solve at the time.
The music was fine with me, I don't find any fault with it at all. Sad atmosphere, though, but, I think it was meant to be like that....

Hymn to Life is a very emotional album---its not an album where you want to dance to its music--its an album that you want to sit and just listen to it to connect with the lyrics emotionally/spiritually.

Timo poured his heart/soul into this Cd and got very poor reviews from reviewers because they could not deal with the deep emotional intensity of this album.

When I listened "Hymn to life" 1st time, I didn't like it al all..I was very dissapointed, I expected the album to sound like Strato. After few months I started to listen it again and I realized that it was a very beautiful album (IMO)
My favourite songs are: Are you the one, Key to the Universe and Now I understand.

I guess Timo had to write it to get things out of his system, otherwise they would just get pent up inside..

Anyway, the album takes a bit of getting used to: it's nothing like your standard strat album and is very personal.
Musically, it may not be anything special but lyrically, it's Timo pouring his heart out. I think you really need to hear it to understand... and to understand Timo.

IMO, this is a real masterpiece, both lyricswise and songswise, my favourite track"Key To The Universe! = just check the opening guitar singing, so much feeling in there. Kiske is brilliant.

Another favourite track "Divine" - a perfect atmosphere, the keyboards there, very light sound and then the heavy riffs towards the end of the song, very unique!

I think it said on the album that TT played the keyboard, didn't it?

He did a good job if that was true!

I think it is a brilliant album!
"Key to the univers" is my favourite song because of Michael Kiske, but I also would like to hear this song with Kotipelto! Maybe on Elements Pt.2 or on an other coming Strato-album! :D

Ciao,

In all honesty it really shouldn't be compared to any Stratovarius albums. It is Hymn to Life by Timo Tolkki. Everyone who expects it to sound like Stratovarius, will definately find otherwise :)
