Ok I have "waiting for the dawn" and the COldness single..and Im pretty disappointed..I think they are pretty bad.
YEA of course Koti sings like a god but whats up with the boring songs. Koti is'nt a very good songwriter at all..many of the songs are so simple and boring..no hooks, monotonous etc etc. It could have been so much better with a better songwriter..I mean Kotis solo albums cant match Stratovarius at all.
I thought waiting for the dawn was gonna rock, but I was wrong..I would give it a 4/10 in review. I know I "should" say its "GREAT WOW KOTI RULES" but just because I love his voice I wont say it..both his solo records are pretty bad and doesnt make him any justice at all. THanks

When I bought WFD copule of years ago, I thought it was disappointment..I have heard from Coldness couple of songs and I think they are quite boring. Speacially "Reasons" which is very bad song.

Re: Kotipeltos solo albums..
I love "Waiting for The Dawn". And not only because it's TK singing; I like most of the songs, even If I agree with you that there are certain composition standards (like choruses repeated & transposed of 5 tones, for example) that are "evident", or better, audible Anyway I would also consider that this is the first time TK has the chance to try himself as a songwriter, and If you ever tried yourself (I do, so trust me ) you would find easily out that in the beginning it's not that simple create without "quoting" yourself often. That is the process by which you create your own style, in the end. So let's give him the chance, he will surely improveloztdignity wrote:

And maybe this topic should be moved from Stratovarius Discussion, don't you think? Cheers!

Re: Kotipeltos solo albums..
OTOH, the single of an album seems to always be one of the less good songs, no matter how brilliant teh album is.
I wonder who is the target group when the powers that be choose a song to be the single?
If you heard Sonata's Victoria's Secret then you might think the whole Winterheart's Guild was not so good, but there are amazing gems in there like The Cage and Champagne Bath.
And out of Elements 1 they chose Eagleheart - I guess it was targeted for .... someone else than me.
I love Eagleheart, but there are other songs that I love more, and I think would have made better choices for a single.
Maybe there are better ones on the album than this song (which I haven't even heard yet..) as there are better ones IMO on Waiting for the Dawn than .. umm.. whichever it was that was the single, I forgot.
WFTD is not boring - just think of Chosen by Re. What a cooool song, I love it!

Re: Kotipeltos solo albums..
singles are also chosen by record lables, and their aim is selling as much as possible, that is plain. So, most of the times the single does not represent the entire record. Eagleheart is not a bad song, let's say they wrote it in 5 minutes...
Anyway, Chosen By Re is a great song, but what of Beginning, Lord Of Eternity, Battle Of The Gods... surely they won't be cornerstones of heavy metal history, but they rule

I don't like Reasons too much, but Seeds of Sorrows seems to be a very good song. I only have the half of it from his site.

Re: Kotipeltos solo albums..
I have heard many times Waiting dor the Dawn, and in my opinion is a good album, not a killer one, but surely it has some killer songs, like the first one and The battle of Gods, plus the ballad which is very goos, plus couple of more songs good. The rest of the album is quite boring, the second half of it especially. Reasons is a very nice song, it's not more simple than Eagleheart or I walk to my own song, and Seeds of sorrows seems to be a killer track. That's basically because in Coldness Timo didn't have limits in songwriting like he had for Waiting for the Dawn album, that is played even by slow drummers (Gas) and perticoular guitar-players (Grapow). It will be a killer album in my opinion!!

Koti should make a real band with Janne Warmen... Instead of working in each others solo albums...

Re: Kotipeltos solo albums..
I like Koti´s songs. They aren´t as good as most of Strato, but I think they are quite interesting.
For exemple Knowledge and Wisdom, Arise or Beauty has come are great.
And some mp3 of Coldness sounds pretty well.I think that Coldness should be better than Waiting for the Dawn.
So....Koti doesn´t write as good music asi Timo, but his songs aren´t worst of all.

i don't know what to say,i have listened to all the two albums and i have to sat that concerning the songwriting they are pretty boring...
i cannot find different songs and there are only few very good and catchy songs.
I prefer WFTD,where LOrd of eternity is my favourite and i must say it's a very good song! like Reasons in the new one,i like it very much.
but after those two songs the two albums doesn't give anything...
i think they're a bit annoying

Re: Kotipeltos solo albums..
On both albums first two, three songs are great. Especially Reasons, which, in my opinion, kicks ass. Then the rest which... is just missing something. Boring.
He has a great voice, and Tolkki might be a jerk, but Kotipelto has no chances with Tolkki's songwriting.

And don't be so sesitive.
Besides, Tolkki himself said he did not like Fright Night....in fact he has called it a turd.

Re: Kotipeltos solo albums..
I think that both Kotipelto's CDs are crappy. A waste of money. The only good point of them is Kotipelto's voice, but the other things are very poor... lyrics, music, etc (although they have Mike Romeo...).
And I am not being Tolkki-favourable, I just tell MY truth. I was expecting too much of those CDs and they extremely disappointed me.
I just deleted them from my computer They are not worth the listening.

The Reasons single went to #1 in just a couple days in Finland, and NONE of Strato's singles EVER made #1!!! #2 was the highest a couple went to!
So,by your hypothesis, there are lots of crazy people out there!

Re: Kotipeltos solo albums..
as a matter of fact, a lot of the guys that criticize Koti's solos compare them with Stratovarius. I think this is a wrong attitude, one of the reasons behind the birth of Koti's solo career (and of many other artists too) is the will of doing something different, and prove that he can be a good songwriter. This does not necessarily force him to write 10 Black Diamonds or 10 Father Time, have a double bass at 240bpm & furious keyboard solos...
What are you going to do then?

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: Kotipeltos solo albums..
Almost everybody has internet, so it's easier to download some of the songs and then decide. The sellings of the single are, as Kotipelto said himself, not too much representative, because curiosity has a big part on it... but surely it's a very good sign for the album, in fact Coldness will sell triple than WFTD in my opinion, like the new Stratovarius will sell more too I guess... I'm going to buy them both if I'll like the 3-4 songs that I'll find on internet , but I have many expectations about Kotipelto's solo album.... Now everyone here tells that sucks I hope not...
