Black Metal

Post by December Mourning » Mon Mar 07, 2005 1:22 am

And by "Black Metal" I mean: Black Metal, Black Viking Metal, Black Heathen Pagan Metal, etc... (in other words, lots of different genres)

Is anyone else a fan of this stuff? Me personally, with the exception of a couple really good bands (Strato, SA, Nightwish, Freedom Call, etc), Black Metal is my favorite music.

Three of my all time favorites are Windir, Falkenbach, Menhir. Anyone else love this stuff too?

Nightwish is considered somewhat black metal. After seeing the video for "Wish I Had An Angel", I pretty much knew they're black metal.

@topic: Not really my type. I'm more of a symphonic metal person.
Somehow I still have an account...yay...?

Nightwish... black metal?!?!? are you crazy?!?!?

Dude, go listen to some Darkthrone, Rotting Christ, Emperor, Dark Funeral and Mayhem. THAT is black metal.

I like Nightwish, but they are definately NOT black metal.

I adore the bands I mentioned, especially ROTTING CHRIST. one of the best black metal bands around. I also love Emperor and Darkthrone. Started listening to some Immortal as well, badass shit!!1

Listen also to Burzum, Graveland, BlackseedBoys (wonderful covers of Britney Spears or Eiffel65), Enochian Crescent or Dimmu Borgir

...they are pretty near to Nightwish  8)

Burzum... ah kickass stuff. Dimmu is pretty nice too. I like old Cradle of Filth stuff too (their newer stuff isn't too great, althought I must admit Nymphetamine is far, far better than I was expecting, I actually enjoy it quite a bit)

Yes here... not everything though, i refuse listening to music which is too dumb or too ridiculous ;)

Some great bands would be stuff like Emperor, Borknagar, Vintersorg, Cryogenic, Dimmu Borgir, Dissection, Naglfar (Sheol is just one of the best albums i know), Marduk and so on. I´vé tried to get into Limbonic Art lately, but it seems i am pretty much bored with all those keyboards ;)

Falkenbach are also great, as are Finntroll and many of this folkish bands like Thyrfing and Mithotyn, Einherjer and so on...

I also like some Darkthrone songs, i just wished you could listen to their cds without getting a headache...

@Nightwish related discussion: WTF? ;)
@ Nymphetamine: I have to admit that i was pretty much surprised by this album as Damnation and a Day was simply boring. Cant be compared to their older stuff though, but not bad at all...

I'm off to download some Dimmu Borgir right now. :D

Black Metal is cool.

...or maybe not.

The site I normally download from isn't working. Can anyone provide any alternatives? :(

Black metal is great, I like Impaled Nazarene.

Moonsorrow, Bathory and Thyrfing are probably closest to Black Metal of what I listen. In general I can't stand music without melody and that's what most BM is for me.

Even though Death metal is more to my liking, Black-m. definitely rocks! :D I really enjoy bands like Immortal, The Covenant, Amon Amarth, Barathrum, Thyrane and so on.

Black metal does have melody. It's just not as obvious, it's very complicated music!

Speaking of Death metal, I'm gonna see Nile and Dying Fetus tomorrow! (well actually today, seeing as its 3am :D ) Can't wait, In Their Darkened Shrines is a totally amazing album!

Black metal has always been my favorite genre since I started listening to it 7 years ago. It's the first metal genre that I got into... I like everything from the raw sound of old or old school bands like Bathory, Darkthrone, Mayhem, Nargaroth, Xasthur, Clandestine Blaze, Marduk, etc. to the more melodic bands like Emperor, Limbonic Art, Catamenia, Astrofaes, etc. :p I also like 80's thrash and heavy metal very much nowadays, but I got into that later. I've only been really listening to power metal since I got into Stratovarius since like 2000, but black metal will always remain my favorite genre cause it's the most violent and hateful music there is and it's the only one that gives me that trance-like feeling when listening to it. It just depends on my mood whether I'll listen to black metal or power metal or whatever... I'm just a metalhead with changing moods, hehe. Metal Rules! \m/
