Fourth Dimension kicks ass.

Post by Jack » Tue Apr 26, 2005 9:51 pm

My lastest order came in yesterday, and hasnt left my CD player since. When I first heard the opening riff to Against the Wind, I knew this album would rock my socks off, from start to finish. This must be my tenth time listening to it right now, it's a very addictive album... I think my favortie songs on it are Galaxies and Lord of the Wasteland.

Can't wait to get the last 3 I need to round out my collection! (Fright Night, Dreamspace, Destiny)

I agree, Fourth Dimension is my second-favorite Stratoalbum, after Visions. And Fourth Dimension is the first album of theirs I listened to all the way through. It took me almost 3 years to find any of Strato's albums here in the U.S., and when I did, I bought every single one they had on the shelf (except for Visions of Europe, which I came back for later, and Infinite, which they did not have in stock at the time). When I brought it back to my hotel room (as I had bought these during one of my vacations), Fourth Dimension was on the top of the stack so it was the first I listened to. I was hooked from the start! I already knew "Against the Wind" because I was lucky enough to record the video when they showed it on MuchMusic (back in the good ol' days when my satellite had MuchMusic).

The reason why I love Fourth Dimension is because the visuals are so strong and clear. Every song evokes images that match the songs. When I listen to "Winter", I picture a cold, snowy night. When you listen to "Twilight Symphony", the lyrics take me right there, and I picture someone running through the woods, lost and frightened. When I listen to "Nightfall", I picture a clear night sky with many stars. Each song takes you to a place that you can see in your mind through the lyrics. All of the other albums do this, but I think Fourth Dimension does this the strongest.

It's simple: Fourth Dimension is the best StratoAlbum to me! So much feeling, a bit of depression, mistery, and some of the best songs of our beloved melodic metal. I have no much things to talk about FD, I love the album, it changed my life. And because os that it's the best to me.

Fourth Dimention was by no means my favorite, but it helped me get a lot of people into the band. I stuck it on 030366 and told them all what an odd song it was. They'd go on to listen to the whole thing and become metalheads.

i dont know about me (has one of my top strato songs, against the wind, distant skies and twilight symphony) but TS is my brother's NUMBER ONE STRATO SONG OF ALL TIME, and he has listened to about 90% of their songs

I don't know why, but this is one of the albums i like at least.
It's not as weird and better produced than Dreamspace, but i like Dreamspace and Episode more than Fourth Dimension.

Well I don't have anything against fourth dimension, persay. I like it great as an album on itself. But it is one of my least favorite albums among Strato albums. The first reason is because I thought Tolkki's vocals were awesome on Dreamspace, and I think Kotipelto's vocals start out very weak in 4D. I really like how he sings in visions-elementsp2, but right out in 4d, its not that great IMO.

030366 owns you \m/

Anyway, it's also one of my least favourites. I mean, it's a great album for sure but the other ones are greater :D

My favs are 030366, TS, DS and the Strato song, those are way underrated.

Particularily 030366... I read many times on these forums that it was a bad song, but when i heard it, i liked it! It has a very creepy, but cool, atmosphere to it... and the Strato song is my favorite instrumental now, i was hooked on it by the second lick TT plays... it's such a fast, pleasant melody.

Same here :D I was very curious about it because of all that was said here so when I got the album I got straight to it and fuck it was AWESOME ! Tuomo's drumming especially blew my mind, I still think he was a better drummer than Jörg.

I dont know if Tuomo is a better drummer than Jorg... its really hard to judge because the drumlines became somewhat simpler after fourth dimension. Suffice to say that theyre both very talented drummers though.

EDIT: Looking back, it may be because Tuomo was more involed in earlier songwriting that the drums were a bit more complex, he did get writing credit on a lot of songs.

Indeed, the drum lines are much more complex on the four first albums (Dreamspace, Firedance, Fourth Reich...), that's what make me think Tuomo was better. Maybe that's because he was a lot into prog stuff and I'm a huge prog fan. And besides that's why he was "asked to leave the band"...

Speaking about Fourth Dimension:
Before a couple of days i found(&bought) a very rare single which was released in 1995 and contains tracks from both Fourth Dimension & Dreamspace. Its name is "Wings of Tomorrow" (tracklist: 1.Wings of Tomorrow 2.Dreamspace 3.Against the Wind) and it was released only in Greece by Noise/T&T records to promote Stratovarius because the title track was the official anthem of the Eurobasket Finals of '95 in Athens.
"Fourth Dimension" is for sure one of the best Stratovarius records, tracks like "Against the Wind","Distant Skies" or "Twilight Symphony"must be included in every good Stratovarius concert...

Well, I am rather new to Stratovarius. I got 3 albums: Visions, Episode, & Fourth Dimension and I must say Fourth Dimension has some spectacular stuff on it!!!!!!

4Dimension is not one of my strato favs... I like more the strato talking aboutfreedom, more melodic, you know... but I think the first 4 strato albums are very interesting, they have some kind of "mistery", but I started with the more melodic songs of strato, so when I hear the 4 firsts albums, I se them too dark for strato, I dunno I feel that are not from strato, that are pre-strato(the melodic strato that I know) but thats only a mater of points of view I suppose, anyway, against the wind, distant skies, we hold the key, twilight symphony, and some parts of lord of the wasteland are great! :)

I have never been able to get into "030366". The melody and lyrics (theme of the lyrics, that is) remind me too much of a cross between Queensryche's songs "NM 156" and "Screaming in Digital".

In my opinion the second-weakest strato album after Fright Night. 4th Dimension is ok, but everything it does, Episode does much better. Know what I mean?

I really like it. 'Lord of the Wasteland' is just awsome. Totally awsome, and scary song. Twilight Symphony is absolutely stunning (but the live version on Visions of Europe is SOOO much better! :D)

We Hold The Key is amazing.

All in all, an outstanding album.
