Skepticism... ultra-funeral doom metal

Post by NeonVomit » Sun Sep 11, 2005 1:42 am

This is the most depressing music I've ever heard in my entire life. I'm currently listening to Stormcrowfleet.. and... its indescribable. Extremely slow, melodic, atmospheric... it's unbelievable. It makes you feel like you've lost the will to live. But so beautiful at the same time.

I know what I want playing at my funeral now.

I will take the risk of wanting to commit painful suicide.. and download a couple of songs. If I can find them.

Just their name makes me depressed. Like....Stormcrowfleet? WTF? Just trying to enunciate that overly-compound word makes me want to kill myself.

Skepticism is the name of the band, Stormcrowfleet is the name of the album. Sign Of The Storm is their most depressing track. Truly awsome and intense.

It's quite strange actually. I've had that album for months now, a friend of mine gave it to me. I listened to it a few times, didn't do anything for me.

About three days ago I listened to it again, and it hit me like a ton of bricks. You just have to be in the right mood.

Skepticism is amazing indeed. I love Funeral Doom and Skepticism is the definition of the genre. All three full lengths and various EP's are godly. If you liked Stormcrowfleet you should have a listen to Lead and Aether and Farmakon also. The keyboards/organ use really sets them apart and contributes to the overal mournful tone. I would not say it is depressive music really, after a few listenings you learn to appreciate all the beauty that is lies within.

If your interested in Funeral Doom you should also check my beloved Thergothon (fathers of the genre - slower than a funeral march -, older band than Skepticism), Winter, Shape of Despair, Esoteric, Pantheist and you should also listen to the first Cathedral album Forest of Equilibrium which is a wicked album, slow, mourning and weird as hell.

I don't understand why people are so interested in ultra-depressing music, maybe being depressed is kinda cool, we need some FUN here, let's all listen to The Offspring and Twisted Sister
