LAURI PORRA : First Solo Album !
I'm a bit surprised that nothing is mentionned on the Strato homepage, but well... here come the news :
The long awaited debut soloalbum of Lauri Porra will be out 12th of October 2005. Lauri (27) is a new bass player of Stratovarius and has also played in many other bands like Warmen, Kotipelto, Torpedo, Emma Salokoski Trio and Sinergy. The album is featured by the most respected players in Finland: Jussi Lehtonen, Tuomo Prättälä, Mikko Kaakkuriniemi, Timo Kämäräinen, Alexi Laiho, Janne Huttunen, Jukka Uljas, Jay Kortehisto, Emma Salokoski and Tero Lindberg. Gulfam Sabri (from India) plays tabla on one track. The album will include a bass solo version of Jean Sibelius' "Valse Triste". All other 8 tunes are Lauri Porra originals.

Re: LAURI PORRA : First Solo Album !
Wow, great news! Thanks for your information, Cliifff. It's really odd that there's nothing in the official Strato website, indeed.. And it's not only about this, but they haven't really updated it in the past few months.
I've not heard about Lauri's solo at all before! The album sounds really interesting.. At least I'm gonna buy it! Somehow I wait a lot from this album, coz Lauri is a great bass player and musician. And as we know, he's been playing in many bands and projects, worked with music for a long time. There's also a bass solo version of Valse Triste on the CD? Wow, great! It's the first time I'll hear a bassguitar version of that song!
Keep the melody in metal. \,,/

Live for now, like there's no tomorrow.

Thanks a lot Cliff for this great new! I hope that i can buy it as soon as i can. Lauri is an excellent bassplayer and he deserves to be more known.

Re: LAURI PORRA : First Solo Album !
To break the chat of the StratoCouple, I post here as well.
It's indeed odd, that they have not posted any news... but they were not online on the Forum either, so I bet, they don't have Internetconnection at all atm.
About the album: well, I need to buy this one, as I started to buy all the solo albums of StratoGuys (only Hymn to Life is bought so far). I'm interested in what kind of music a bass player might write... how much different is it going to be than Tolkki's or Koti's style. We will see.

Re: LAURI PORRA : First Solo Album !
Hi!
It seems it's gonna be very jazz-influenced, as the guest musicians are mostly important jazz performers.
Jussi Lehtonen (drums)
Tuomo Prättälä (keyboards)
Mikko Kaakkuriniemi (drums)
Timo Kämäräinen (guitar)
Emma Salokoski (vocals)
Tero Lindberg (trumpet)
Janne Huttunen (saxophone)
Jukka Uljas (saxophone)
Jay Kortehisto (trombone)
It was really hard to find english sites for some of them, sorry .
Rock On! (Or should it be Jazz On! )

Re: LAURI PORRA : First Solo Album !
Already someone has noticed on Kotipelto-forum that the drummer Mikko Kaakkuriniemi was the drummer of the Kotipelto-band in the European tour last spring.
Also the trombone-player, Jay Kortehisto has played some rock in Leningrad Cowboys (Finnish show-rock´n roll band), at least a couple years ago. I´ve no idea if he still plays there.

Cool! Hope that they sell it on the tour, I have bugger all chance of getting it otherwise, without paying 8eu to get it shipped from Germany...

do you mean from or to germany?Fireblade wrote:Cool! Hope that they sell it on the tour, I have bugger all chance of getting it otherwise, without paying 8eu to get it shipped from Germany...
seems like amazon.de isn't going to sell this, maybe nuclearblast.de or emp.de will sell it..
perhaps stratoshop will sell this album, too?

.
Lauri Porra's website seems to be started up.
Right now there is only some basic info about him and his career, and a few promopics of him.
