Any word from the band yet on whether they'll be able to meet with fans before or after the show???!

And do they have anyone videotaping the show?

Hey guys (Dragon & Burning), it was cool meeting you guys at the show last night, it was great fun. Sorry for you though Dragon, that you had to turn around and go back home so far. :(

Burning: I'll see you tonight in Santa Ana!

Oh yes, and the show did kick major ass. I'll have reviews of both shows up VERY soon.

All I can say about it now was that for me, it was worth the wait! I waited 7 years for my chance to see Strato and now that I have, I can easily say I would have waited twice as long if I had to in order to get the kind of show I had last night! Many thanks to Timo K. for coming out and having some nice words with me. I'll see you all tonight!!!

Burning: I'll forgive you later, but you just revealed my best-kept secret by calling me by name. ;)

OK, you're forgiven. I don't hold grudges that long. :D

Enigma: I plan to write out my reviews tonight; it's hard for me to get online like I normally do to write them so I'll have to write them out first, save to a text file, and copy next time I get online. You won't be disappointed!

C, take all the time you need for writing, I know you are good at it, no doubt. :) It just tickles my mind to hear what a devoted fan like you have to say after waiting so long to get to see a live Strato show, or actually two shows in a row. How cool can that be? 8)

^ I was there with you waiting by the gate at the Santa Ana show (didn't want to really explain that I was on this forum at the moment). When Tolkki came up to sign autographs, you explained to him how you were on the Tolkki forum and then Tolkki said that he was going to bring the forum back! You said you were from Russia and Tolkki said that he has Russian blood....I could talk forever about the show tonight, but I will write a very thorough review about within a day or two. Goodnight everybody.

The Santa Ana show was so f*ckin' awesome! I had killer seats and had the pleasure of hanging out at a table with a lovely couple originally from Finland, who now live in California. I think I picked up a few more words subconsciously that might help me in my ongoing Finnish lessons.

I just wanted to say thanks again to Strato for making my 7-year wait worthwhile, and thanks again to Timo K. for being so awesome. Thanks to Tolkki for everything; sorry we didn't get to meet up, but hopefully this is only the beginning of a beautiful relationship between Strato and their American fans! :D

I promise a review very soon, I want to get these pictures developed! I was hoping to catch a good pic of the band with the Suomi flag but my flash was being weird. Timo K. can back me up that my camera sucks and the flash takes "Forever" to go off. :(

Anyway...thanks again so much to all the Strato guys, you are the best f*ckin' band I have seen live in a long time! And I daresay you could blow any of those bands out of the water. Kiitos!!!

Post by Tijuana Metal » Wed Oct 12, 2005 3:34 am

Well, I cant begin to say how awsome this show was, simply the best. I can recall how me and some of my friends had begun a conversation of the bands that we least thought would ever make a US tour, and believe it or not Stratovarius and Therion headlined our conversation. Oddly enough both came within 3 weeks of each other. Well the set list was great, I beleve they didnt play Coming Home, no worries as its not one of their best songs.

Deception was awosme, I might be biased as my friends know the singer Luis, plus we bought the tickets from him so they could play at the show. They are pure power metal, and Luis has great vocals, he can really hit those high notes. Then came the crappy ass Into Eternity, what the hell was Strato thinking when they decided to tour witht these guys, they must be REALLY open minded as the signer stated.

Then came yours truly, Stratovarius, and initially I looked at Timo,as people in other shows had stated that he had only smiled twice, yet to my suprise he came out with great intensity. He seemed happy to be playing, constantly moving around, playing in front of the drums, or next to Jens and Lauri. Lauri suprised me, I had heard great things about him, yet he surpassed them all, specially his solo, although chosing to play John Lenon's Imgine threw me off. Jens was Jens, his usual drunken self making ackward faces and antics, yet who cant love Jens. Kotipelto was awsome, leading the crowd gracefully, adding the the already great atmosphere. His vocals were right on target, although my position in the venue was not the most favorable to judge this. Jorg I couldnt really see, all I saw was his puffed out afro. Another difference I noted from other shows was the fact that they only left the stage once, coming back playing thru 3-4 tracks, they didnt run off stage as in other shows, they waited around the stage, clapping at the crowd, throwing picks and drum sticks, then they did the usual chant to 4 in Finish , they bowed and left the stage. I atribute this to Kotipelto's comments that he was supprised how the crowd was responding, something him and the band did not expect. They also often called out other cities in order to ignite the crowd to chant and scream louder, something that worked to perfection. I really liked Hunting High and Low and Black Diamond, as the crowds interaction was at its best during these songs. It felt akwards seeing a mosh pit in a power metal show, but that just went on to show the crowds enthusiasm.

The venue was no the greatest, as the ackward stairs separating the floor into front and back sections disrupted the continuity of the crowd, and this beam that was in front of me obstructed the view of other fans. On the upside, beign in a small venuw gave the fans a great advantage of beign close to Strato.

What really topped of the was this once in a lifetime opportunity that my friend got. While they were playing Destiny I belive, this white chick wearing a Slipknot shirt (ugghh) stood next to me and began to watch my friend head bang, then when she stopped head banging, she handed her a Back Stage pass. At first we didnt know if it was real, but we asked this manager and she said yeah. So after the show she got to go back stage and meet the band in this reay small room in the back. She took pictured with all band members except Timo, as he had walked out right when she got in. She talked to each of them personaly, telling them how great they had been and how we never expected they would tour in the US, to which Kotipelto responded that they didnt belive it also. Then he said that in all probability they would come back again. Jens even offered her some of his alcohol, and invited her over to the Rainbow to go with them, yet shes only 16. She then hanged around the room a little longer, then she said it started to get a little crowded and she left, plus we had to drive all the way back to San Diego. Ill try to post the pictured backstage if I can, so you can see how wasted Jens and Jorg were afte the show, Jorg could barely remain seated.

Overall this was the best metal show I have attended, probably because my friend got to meet them and got my shirt and ticket signed! Hope they come back.

Something fishy is going on here. :?
Dragon77 other post was removed, so was elvenrhapsody's(who agreed with Dragon)&my son's. Nothing offensive was said---just that some fans in USA felt bad about certain things.
Why the whitewash? I think everyone agrees that the tour was a success.

WTF!!!??

Gee someone didn't like what I had to say? Did I possibly make some SENSE?! I doubt anyone will have the guts to own up to doing the deceitful act.

You don't like what someone has to say, so you just remove the post.

If that isn't bullshit! ....

I won't make any speculation on who it was, I'd just like to see if they're ADULT enough to own up to it.

What's next, banning me because I spoke ill of certain band members?!

Hm, i'm sure it was nothing personal, what jens did, at the rainbow? He doesn't exactly have a history of being a callous asshole? Who knows? Give him the benefit of the doubt?
Anyways, the show was good, i think. I'm glad they finally had the opportunity to come here!

Stratowarius, you're comments aren't even worth responding to - you clearly have no idea what you're talking about.

The fact remains that multiple posts have been removed because someone didn't like what they said. My response remains, TOUGH - you don't want comments? Don't create a public forum for people to post on then.

Yes, Moderators have the right (and responsibility) to edit and even remove posts, but only for good cause - because someone posts something that someone doesn't like, or because they post negative opinions is not good cause. It's childish and immature.

As there were other posts removed, it seems clear that I am not the only person with the opinions I expressed - what, was someone afraid that more people would start to post similar opinions?

Pathetic.

I have no idea who cancelled your post, and that is (remarkably) as it should be! :)

I'll respond to it nevertheless.. you wrote:
Ok, the show itself was great and well worth the wait, but I do have a few beefs to air. First off, what was with the band???! I kept hearing on here how they''ll make time for the fans, sure they''ll sign autographs etc. That was bull - they all rushed over to the Rainbow for drinks within minutes of going offstage. Timo K was kind enough to sign a few things for people and snap a couple of pics on the way over, but no one else did. Timo T was kind enough to give a signature anda handshake over at the Rainbow, but the big disappointment was Jens'' attitude.

Yeah Jens, that was me standing behind you waiting paiently for over 25 minutes while you ate your pizza and totally ignored me. I heard you tell the other guy that came over for an autograph to leave you alone while you were eating as well. Let me tell you, that kind of \"screw you\" attitute makes me want to tell you \"screw you\". You''re on here bitching & moaning about people downloading and how it''s \"stealing\" from you and that fans should support you. Who the hell are you without your fans?!!!!

Why the HELL should I bother to support you, when you can''t be human enough to appreciate your fans? Yeah, you ended up signing the DVD (that I special ordered with rush delivery at an extra charge!), on the outside of the case (ignoring that I asked for it inside) and then smeared it. You didn''t even acknowledge my presence the whole time I was standing there patiently, in the cold.

I could understand not hanging around to sign stuff when you play a stadium and there are thousands of people, but there were maybe 25-30 people that hung around outside waiting for you guys. It''s not like you''re over here several times a year! When you have fans that are dedicated enough to wait around for an hour or more after a show just to meet you and get an autograph, and you can''t even be bothered to pay attention to them, .......

The guys I *really* feel sorry for, were the bunch that drove 700+ miles, all the way from Utah, just to see you.

Maybe the next time sales and show attendance are down, you''ll think about things like this
I'll say this again: you pay the ticket price, you get to see and hear the band perform. That is the deal with concerts. Doesn't matter if you drive 3 km, 700 km, or if you teleport from Earth's moon. Anything else is OPTIONAL.

I usually try my best to sign autographs etc, but if I didn't eat all day, then all bets are off. And if I'm sitting and talking to friends I haven't met for fifteen years in the great Rainbow, well then fuck me, all bets happen to be off as well. But to be sure.. nothing pisses me off more than people I never met before asking for autographs or attention when I am eating. I don't know why. It's just something i was born with.

I do invite disussions about this topic, so whoever it was deleting the post, don't bother! I don't feel bad IN THE SLIGHTEST about eating pizza and drinking long island iced teas instead of signing autographs. That is MY OWN TIME and I am allowed do whatever the fuck I want with it. The fact that you happened to see me do it doesn't entitle you to anything.

Regarding the jens issue.. i think in general most people agree that he is a great guy.. and that goes to treating fans well too, if nothing else check out posts like this one or many others here

http://www.stratovarius.com/forum/viewt ... 191#312191

I think jens is 100% correct, their off time is their off time, anything they do for the fans in that time should be considered a "bonus" and not taken for granted. And it seems to me that dragon77 is just a bit of a self-centered whiner... i'm sure he will be back here whining some more about how he is right and jens is wrong bla bla bla waaaaa whiiiine you didnt pay enough attention to meeeeeeeeeee.

I understand Jens, singing autographs or being nice to fans is not MANDATORY stuff to do. Not a chance. When I choose not to download his work, or travell 70000 km to see him, or having his whole discography... it doesn't mean I deserve ANYTHING else than what I am paying for.

So, I understand him, also the short minutes he may have to have some lunch or meet old friends. There may be nothing WORST than being interrupted by a strange asking for trivia...

But there's another way to see it... Jens, you don't even imagine how important it is for a "fan" (awful word = I'd better say 'people who goes into emotion by your creations') to share a single minute with you. I have had a little conversation with you, and I'll never forget that. This will remain in my soul forever.

So, if you're Madonna and there are 10,000 people pushing to see you and have a pic with you, I understand you run away. But when there're just a few, looking forward to meet an accesible man, who seems to be really cool, and makes our lives better by playing great music, I think that a single minute of attention should be considered.

I still understand him. Just wanted to give my opinion.

I flew from florida to california to see the San francisco and La shows... I didn't get to meet any of the guys, but it was still worth going... and travelling a million hours for! hahaha
Maybe you guys are making a big deal out of something.... not so important? Obviously they appreciate their american fans, or else they wouldn't have come to america? Just a thought.
