Sonata Arctica's UNIA is out there...

Post by eternity_strato » Fri Apr 06, 2007 3:34 pm

Anyone listened to it? I'll try to wait till its release...

I have read that is more progressive, step up from Reckoning night (kind of evolution they started with Winterheart's Guild) and has awesome solos.

Please, tell us!

I'm looking forward the release. I'm also wandering if I buy the new TK solo album. :P Viva Sonata!

I have listened to it. I like it a little bit, only 'cause of not having a lot of double bass! :P
Ok, just joking!

I think that this may be their most progressive album, only few power points can be noticed. So well done to Sonata and I hope they will try to make more evolution to their sound in the future!

Better to wait for the release and buy the album (+ the Japan version!).

But if I had it legally, it wouldn't have grown on me either.

Mmm, sounds like their worst album so far... Maybe I just need to listen to it more...

Wierd, I seem to be one of the few who actually liked it from the beginning (note, I WILL buy it, special edition if possible), sure it does not have anthems or very fast songs, but those bore me after a few times. The lyrics are deep, the composition complex and some pretty nice progressions. I like it more than Winterheart's and about the same as Reckoning Night.

It's good that they decided to take a different direction and experiment with other types of songs. I'm glad. I like it when bands experiment.

I didn't mind those albums too much actually. There are some very good songs on both of them. Was I disappointed? Well I guess so. But I still find those albums good.

St. Anger on the other hand... :(

Yes... consider how I felt when I bought it without question or reading up on it. NEVER AGAIN.

Well, I still haven't listened to Unia in detail, so I reserve judgement... But I did listen to Kamelot's "Ghost Opera" and I LOVE it!

The Ghost Opera will be my next album I buy!

UNIA is more progressive and has a huge of details in the songs. It is not typically SA, but when you hear, you can feel the spirit of SA...
It has no "lala"-songs as FullMoon e.g. but I am sure as more as I hear those songs as more they will kick my ass! It needs time but this time it's worth of!

you can't kill my spirit

Ghost Opera is fine, but not as good as Karma, Epica and The Black Halo.
Unia on the other hand is definetly Sonata's greatest album. It has some just-ok -songs, but I love their new style. Who dares to call them Strato/Helloween -clone now?

got a point there mormegil. Karma, TBH & Epica have lots of catchy and totally earwurm songs while GO...well..not that much. :? ..Back on topic though, UNIA is amazing and love what they did on The Harvest f.e!!

I've listened to Unia only twice and not very well. It disappointed me, but I need to listen to it again, maybe my judgement will be better :?
Till now, to me the best cd in 2007 is Dimmu Borgir's In Sorte Diaboli, but Ghost Opera can overtake it in my personal ranking :)

I listen to Unia 3 times and the more i listen the better he sounds. Sonata sounds more mature on this album.

-Strato, Twilight time, Dream Space, or one of the elements.
or
-Something IronMaiden (I remember seeing album "Killers"...)

I don't recommend to start with Killers. Go for Sevent Son Of A Seventh Son, Somewhere In Time and The Number Of The Beast.

I already have songs from "Somewhere in time", I borrowed it from my mom...

CD's that are awailable:
-Killers
-There's no prayer for dying
-Live after death
-Somewhere in time (but not gonna buy that as I want new songs).

More costing ones 16-19€
-Serenity (I loved Coldness and people say that this is even better)
-Unia (People say that first it's strange but afterwards they call it their best album so far)
-Fuel For the fire (the Ari Koivunen thing, I dunno if it's good, I have only heard few songs.)

And yeah, I would like to have something powerfull like Stratovarius.

Then, just buy one of the Strato albums that's missing. :D (I'm Mr Know-it-all :P )
Ok, for something too similar to Stratovarius you should find a band called Magic Kingdom. The album is called Metallic Tragedy if I remember correctly.

Well not Exactly like stratovarius, but something speedy, I don't want anything too "death", I loved the SiT album, especially songs Deja-vu and Loneliness of the long distance runner.

I would propably buy new strato album, but can't find any.

I have to admit that Unia might be IMO the best Sonata Arctica album so far. I liked it from the beginning and still like it. They sure have progressed.

Well, I've listened to a few of their songs, and I'm sorry, but I have to say I don't like it a whole lot. It sounds too much like an Evanescence album. It's too much modern progressive rock, which I'm not a big fan of.
Somehow I still have an account...yay...?
