About Schmidt
Tragic comedy with Jack Nicholson in an absolutely uncommon role. Kind of a melancholic roadmovie.

Night At The Museum - good family comedy.
Dogma - haven't seen it in ages, forgot just how great this movie is!
300 with RiffTrax commentary - one of the latest targets of Mike Nelson and Co.
Der Untergang (extended cut) - one of my favorite movies and the extended cut makes it even better. It contains 22minutes of additional material and I don't understand the reason for cutting out the most of it ...
Tristan and Isolde - sort of a Romeo and Juliet story but placed much earler in history (post-Roman Britain). A decent movie ...

Final Destination 3 Not as good as the previous ones, but it keeps you interested on some ocasions
300 Managed to see it normally. Very good as a movie, although some historical events are not referred.

Very enjoyable mix of fantasy, comedy and romance, in vein of Princess Bride. Based on Neil Gaiman's book, though except few names and basic premise, nothing much of it was transferred to the movie. The book was much darker in tone than the movie ...

Other movies that had made me cry: My Girl and I, Turn Left, Turn Right
Those are romantic comedy movies.

The Good Shepherd -> I totally recommend that. Great cast at their best, nice plot. No action, though. That's about a patriotic spy agent from CIA (Matt Damon) who puts his personal life on the line to serve his country.
The Lake House -> BTTF fans will both love and hate this movie. No Sci-Fi, just a love story about a mailbox that sends mail from two years ago or to two years in the future depending if you are Sandra Bullock or Keanu Reeves.
Sisters -> Wow, that made no sense whatsoever, but that's a thriller about a woman who apparently has an evil siamese sister.
Brick -> That's a detective movie about a teen boy who deals with drug dealers to find his ex-girlfriend. The pace is a little fast for those who depend on subtitles, but it's a good (not great) movie.

Hollow Man 2 - Boring sequel for quite an ok movie.
Jaws 2 - Boring sequel for quite an ok movie. I know Jaws is concidered classic and Spielberg's great breaktrough, but I never liked it that much. At least this is better than part four.

A.k.a. The Violence Of The Lambs. What the fcuk is the matter with new-zealandese film-makers? First Peter Jackson with his Bad Taste, Meet The Feebles and Braindead and now this. Brilliant, hilarious horror-comedy.

Operation: Kingdom (or simply "The Kingdom")
Great political Action Drama! I recommend this movie to everybody interested in nowadays politics. The final conclusion of it is really brutal and shattering. But, also from the point of view of a good movie itself it really rocks!

Cannibal! The Musical - insanely funny debut film of Trey Parker and Matt Stone, the creators of South Park. The songs alone are making this movie worth watching, especially Let's Build A Snowman.
Planet Terror - stupid, plotless, lots of blood, gore and violence zombie z-grade movie, but I don't remember when I had so much fun watching a movie like that. It's a masterpiece of intentionally made bad movies.

This movie is worth watching for the scenes with chick with M-16 for a leg alone or the zombie-chopping using a helicopter, which was more insane that the lawnmower scene from Braindead ... It also has Bruce Willis who apparently killed Bin Laden, Quentin Tarantino who gets his vital parts melted off (literally, and in all the graphic details) and Sayid from Lost with a quirky hobby involving other men's vital parts. I don't know know what Robert Rodriguez had while writing this movie, but it was a killer stuff.

Re: Recently seen movies
I went to see 30 Days of Night last weekend, since I always have been a fan of horror films. Unfortunately, despite buckets of blood, this movie was truly lame.
The human characters had zero depth, and the plot while it looked good on paper, lacked a lot in execution. The vampire characters were throwbacks to the old Nosferatu type, complete with their own language that consisted primarily of grunts and groans. Oh, and of course, there was a love story sub-plot which, needless to say, made the film even cheesier.
Spoiler:
One of the stupidest scenes was where the Sheriff of Barrow, Alaska (played by Josh Hartnett) fights his way to the local hardware store to "test" an ultraviolet light on the vampires. It works, but then the power gets cut (again)- don't these people know what a fucking battery is? At least in the first Blade, the hunters had a bit of fun frying the fat little vampire accountant with a UV light that was powered by a large Duracell battery!
Unless you are a fan of really cheesy and ridiculous C-grade horror films, I cannot recommend this one. For those that want to see a really good vampire type of film, I would personally suggest checking out the old made for TV movie " 'Salem's Lot" by Stephen King- it starred David Soul, James Mason, Lance Kerwin, and Bonnie Bedilia.

The concept of "America is the best, our soldiers are the best, our culture is the best, we have the best ppl, and the main character is our best bad ass. All the other cultures suck, we make fun of them, and we dont' like them" has already been overused. Overused stuff isn't 'great'. But, that's my opinion.browneyedgirl wrote:The concept is great.
