Nightwish live

Post by Shurik » Sun Oct 07, 2007 2:18 am

I just came back from their concert in Tel Aviv - first concert in new tour ... Damn, it was good!

The setlist was more or less same setlist that they played in the couple of "surprise" shows with Anette, except they also played a cover of Symphony Of Destruction (which was kinda funny to hear because I heard it played by Megadeth in the same place 3 months ago). If any of you had any doubts about Anette as Nightwish's singer - those doubts are wrong, she is a very capable singer and a very great "showwoman", it looked like she was the one that enjoyed the show the most (and others, especially Marco, didn't hide their enjoyment much) ... The only 2 songs she had some difficulties with were Wishmaster and Sacrament Of Wilderness, others were perfect (for example Sleeping Sun, Ever Dream, She Is My Sin).

So, all hail the new era of Nightwish!

Few pretty bad ones, it was difficult to take pictures or shoot video with people constantly headbanging and raising hands and I also wasn't in the first row:

I also have a couple of short videos (parts of Amaranth and The Islander) of similar quality.

The setlist was:

01. Intro + Bye Bye Beautiful
02. Cadence Of Her Last Breath
03. Dark Chest Of Wonders
04. Ever Dream
05. Whoever Brings The Night
06. Amaranth
07. Sacrament Of Wilderness
08. The Islander
09. The Poet And The Pendulum
10. Symphony Of Destruction (Megadeth Cover)
11. She Is My Sin
12. Sahara
13. Sleeping Sun
14. Slaying the Dreamer
15. Nemo
---------------
16. Eva
17. Wishmaster
18. Wish I Had An Angel
Outro: Blood Diamond

An 1h45min of music, Marco's jokes, Marco's driniking vodka on stage and Anete telling us how much fun she has, and both of the complaining about the heat :)

Apparently, these were some shekels that were well spent! I have three people that will be riding down to Atlanta with me on Nov. 17th!

That's a lot of cheese. I've been deciding whether or not to see them in the coming week. It's only 38 bucks. I seriously don't know. Am I going to regret it in the future? Shu, dammit.

You most definitely will. I was doubtful too, especially after watching few videos from their "secret" shows, but the show was great.

And, that was my last Nightwish concert. She's a horrible singer. DPP is great, and Toumas is a great metalhead, but she's not good at singing.

And Shurik, I kinda regret going. :P

Well, last night I watched some YouTube vids from the Israel show, and my opinion is:

- She is not a bad singer, I mean, she's in tune and has power.
- The new songs suits her very well
- But, the old songs... I don't like how she sings them :? Ok, she's not an opera singer and she's giving the songs her own style, but I don't like it! That's not Nightwish, it seems like an average cover band from my hometown is playing Nightwish.

Maybe I'm so used to Tarja's voice and my "system" doesn't accept "her" songs being sung different, maybe I will get used to Annette's style in the future and like it, but all I can say now is that now I'm really happy that I saw Nightwish with Tarja live at least once in 2004 in Quito, Equador, even if the trip to get there was kind of... hard and weird

@Equinox : you're wrong! She's a 500 times better singer than Tarja was! She's more present on stage and she gives all her heart for the crowds to be happy. :) I can't wait until NW coming in april 2008!!!
Toutes choses étant égales, par ailleurs, la solution la plus simple est toujours la meilleure.

No one's wrong. Ppl just have different opinions.
She ain't a better singer than Tarja, that's a fact.
She might be more present on stage and more jumpy and all happy, but the way that I see it, it's because she doesn't have anything else to offer. When Tarja was with the band, I used to enjoy seeing her live, for the beautiful way she sings, when I saw this new singer, I thought about Britney Spears. With all the jumping and bad screams. But hey! You ain't guilty until April. :)

Tastes and colors...
I follow the opinion of Dawn_is_Here, about the evolution of the band.

I totally agree with you and the opinions. Finally, everyone see the old and new nightwish in a different way. I just can say that the new album is great and I'm really looking forward to the gig I'll enjoy next february.
I cannot imagine how Annette will sing the Tarja-songs, maybe I'll be disappointed, maybe surprised...

@Metalangel: of course she's more to the crowd on stage. I think everyone of us would do this when he played in front of 50 or more people and then suddenly they are a couple of thousands! :)

Yeah, I saw them in Orlando thursday night and it was by far one of the best concerts I have ever seen. No cheese, all class. In fact, they are my all time favorite band from Finland. I like Annette much better than Tarja. Tarja's opera singing got annoying at times. Now I think they have the perfect line up. And on the older songs, Annette definatly did not disappoint me.

Speaking of Tarja. I heard her new solo album. All I have to say is " What the fuck was that shit" ? And why did she have to cover an Alice Cooper song. She fucking ruined it. Alice Cooper songs can only be sung one way. And Opera is not that way.

I enjoyed the album though the cover of Poison was a bit dubious! Loved the In Extremo remix of the single though! :D
